I do agree we had a long list of problems outside the QB position.

Zion was pretty well protected. But he was wildly inconsistent.

That is just as dumb a post as if every time a backup QB failed someone came on and said see, that means we can’t bench Roberson and anyone thinking an unseen backup must be the answer is an idiot.

Every situation is different. You think ZT should have played? Great, make your case. We all saw him play for a season and can have a discussion. But your “evidence” is beyond irrelevant.

It's similar to people going to the casino and you think they always win. People only talk about the times they win and don't mention the other 500 times they went and lost.

It's amazing that people see your post as negative or you having a bad day or some bs, when you were simply pointing out a bias that people experience when seeing a singular event and ignoring the actual reality that the third stringer, even on an NFL team is nearly 100% likely to suck, but a few get do well over the years and it skews a person's perception.

When I look at these things I mostly take the tact of a probabilist (not a statistician be cause that requires lots of data... which is the heart of the problem) in that I think most people want to see the 3rd stringer and so on because to them its the great mystery and they have the hope it'll pan out but havent seen the reason it wont yet.

Of course there's always the idea the coach might be wrong and the player has the magical "intrinsics" that will just happen if you get the power to show if can happen. And sometimes there's something to it. Scott zolak, 4th stringer in 1992 wins two games of a foresaken 0-14 season. There's other situations too but they don't happen often.

People will not let go of these thoughts because they embed an obvious hope

I mean I think it's natural to want to see what the "next man up" has when you're iffy about the guy on the field. When Fagnano was the guy, we wanted Roberson. When Roberson was the guy, we wanted ZT. The fact is there was no next-level guy to take snaps.

I can’t say I disagree.

I just wanted to see a few more looks at QB.

I was at most of home games and got a close up look at missed catches, missed passes, missed tackles - we were in a major funk. QB only 1 facet but an important one - think we all agree. Wanted to see if there was something we could have done to shake that funk off.

Syracuse lost to 45-0 to a team we only lost by 3. If TR had been willing to run the ball on some key 3rd/4th downs, we might have won that game.

For all the negativity on the year on players/choices etc. something tells me coaching was one of reasons we had such a bad record. We were a solid .500 team IMO.

Yes, Zion and the 2022 FB season were akin to the sun breaking through the clouds before the 40 days and 40 nights rain storm resumed. Hopefully we see the sun a bit longer going forward.

I am also a Steelers fan and we’ve struggled quite a bit, in some ways much like UConn at QB position. Our number 1 is good (Pickett) but not great and our back up, Mitch Trubiski is just not a QB for this level of football - not anymore anyways.

But yesterday, they took a chance and put their 3rd string QB Mason Rudolph against a surging Bengals team, and what do you know? This kid looked like Terry Bradshaw out there for a day and posted 124 QB Rating and hung 30+ pts on Bengals.

My point with UConn is we didn’t have to ride the Roberson train all season - he was playing good at times - definitely, but there were times he was really stinking it up out there. I wish we had the opportunity for a fair evaluation of ZT before he left or seen Tucker for a half. I’m excited for Cole W. To join out team but if and when we hit bumpy patches we’ve got to let some others get some time in at the QB position - make sure we are putting the best player at that particular time, out on the field.

I appreciate your enthusiasm for ZT but have a tough time agreeing with your argument. If ZT outplayed Robinson during practice, they would have started him.

Well i had a hard time accepting the coaches evaluation when Fagnano started....
Also please note this argument isnt about saying that ZT was better than TR but onliy that I wanted to see him or Tucker take some snaps when then wheels came off.

Revisionist history but.....You know, the Rosa flip keeps coming up.

Was with a bunch of Alums at Bidwells in Coventry pre X-Mas, and of course the FB team and season was a hot topic. Discussed how that game and that situation might have turned the bus 180 from the direction it eventually went. Went back through the schedule again, and if we could have been 2-2 after Duke, juiced and confident, 8-4 was a real possibility.

Looking forward, we have the opportunity next year, to maybe flip the script.

yes, so the point is the combo of the 2 led to a coulda shoulda woulda scenario that if erased may have changed the game and the season, so the opportunity next year is to not flip and not have a flagrant hit and beat who we can beat.

Orlovsky was much better regarded... Welliver looked good, but as always with high-school kids the proof is what happens when they get on campus and are no longer (often by a wide margin) the best player on the field. Ultimately adding speed and avoiding drops from the receiving crew will be a big help. The line scares me though, the line play took a step back in 2023 and now must replace the top two linemen. If there is a big step backwards from that group and it won't matter who the QB is.

Actually truth be told AllHusky, the flip from Rosa, I don’t think it should’ve been called by ref. Very minor.

I see Rosa’s flip like a kicker who has nails 30 field goals in a row that shanks a short one. Mora should have made him understand at the time little bit of yelling and then S up and move on. This isn’t someone that needs the amount of attention this got And especially Not in post game conference. Whether it was this extreme negativity of this play and or injury Rosa never seemed the same after this game.

Also truth be told I am almost never embarrassed by our players as a fan - even bad losses. I was at the game and witnessed that flagrant hit at NC State game. I was embarrassed to have one of our player sink so low -that was a terrible mean spirited play - took the air out of the crowd as we all sat there praying the NC State player was okay.

Also, like many games, the score was closer than it appeared. Even in the 2nd half w/ NC State there was tons of time left on the clock for them to come back even if flagrant and celebration never happened.

It was missed blocks, tackles, catches and throws, X/O’s is why we lost to NC State.

Wasn't so much that yesterday's win was expected. More that they've only played in Seattle 5x in 40 years, so it's not like they've got a ridiculous losing streak of 10 or more games. A 1-4 record is about what I'd expect over 5 games there.
