The 2013-2014 has been a rather busy season and the numbers definitely support that. This seasons stats are as follows,
· 295 Three pointer- Second in UCONN history only to last years total of 327. Of course last year UCONN had a healthy KML who hit 118 of them and Kelly Faris. The fact that this team was down Kelly Faris and KML missed 12 games, and they were still able to make 295 is impressive.
· If I am not mistaken the 850 assist made by this team this year set a new NCAA record for the total number of assist in a single season by any team, at any time.
· This years 324 blocked shots set another new NCAA record for the total number of blocked shots in a single season, surpassing the great block totals set by a Brittney Griner lead Baylor squad.
· With 376 steals this year, this team failed to make it into their own top ten performances. But 376 is nothing to be disappointed with. That is an average of 9.4 steals a game. That is one way to steal the title J. Okay that was lame.
· With 1716 rebounds this team finished in 4th place on the all-time UCONN record. One rebound away from tying for third place. Also, coincidentally the season that had the most rebounds came in with 1776. 1776 is a good year in America ;)
· The 3283 points scored was the second most in UCONN history, only 111 points behind their top point producing season.
· The 486 free throws made did not crack the top ten for UCONN. Towards the end of the tournament whereas the men would hit all their free-throws, we started to miss ours. Going 7-15 in the championship game L, 24-39 in the final four L
Individual Info:
  1. · Bria Hartley finished her career ranked #8 in scoring with 1,994 points. She also finishes with 259 Three pointers which places her #6 all time at UCONN currently behind KML who is in at #5 with 277. She also finishes #5 in assist with 559. Other than that, she had 10 blocked shots, 235 steals, and 550 rebounds.
  2. · Stefanie Dolson finished her career ranked #12 in scoring with 1797 points. She finished #4 at UCONN with 254 blocked shots and #4 at UCONN with 1101 rebounds. For a center she was able to also amass 132 steals, 16 , and 378 assist.
  3. · Breanna Stewart had 777 points in her sophomore season, the second most points at UCONN in a single season. Maya had 868 points in her senior season. She also had 37 points in a single game and had 110 blocks in a season, which is the third most in one season. Currently she ranks 6th all time on the top ten shot blockers at UCONN. She currently has 1,274 points which places her at #32 at UCONN for points scored.
  4. · KML played in 28 games and hit 66 three pointers, she is currently #5 on the top ten list at UCONN with 277. Having only scored 374 points this season as a result of her injury, her overall scoring and three pointers made is drastically lower than what it should have been had she been healthy all season. She currently has 1613 points which places her #16 at UCONN.
  5. · Moriah Jefferson had 106 steals this season. This is the 7th time at UCONN someone had over 100 steals in a single season, and this was the 5th most steals.
  6. · Kiah Stokes had 89 block shots this season. She played roughly 500 less minutes than Breanna Stewart and Stefanie Dolson and was right there with them when it came to blocked shots. This is an extremely impressive stat to keep in mind when it comes to Stokes. Also she had 278 rebounds. She may not have torn it up offensively but her defense was what helped us with a national title undefeated!
UCONN as a whole
Five undefeated seasons
· 35-0: 95
· 39-0: 02, 09, 10
· 40-0: 14

Four titles with 1 or more losses
· 36-1: 00
· 37-1: 03
· 31-4: 04
· 35-4: 13

9 total Championships yet no titles in years that end in a 1, 6, 7, or 8.

In the nine championship seasons Geno is 331-10. A 97% winning record in the years in which he has won a national title. Geno has one more loss in those nine years that he does titles!

There have been 8 undefeated programs in Women’s basketball history. UCONN has five of them!

UCONN is 9-0 in Championship games, has been to 7 straight final fours, during which time they have won 4 titles. (please do not confuse this with Notre Dame who has been to three championship games and four years and won none J)

If I am not mistaken we have been to 15 Final Fours.

One last thing to point out.
2013 Louisville Men and UCONN Women won the national title in their last year in the Big East
2014 UCONN Men and Women won the national title in their first year in the American!

  1. [ ]· Bria Hartley finished her career ranked #8 in scoring with 1,994 points. She also finishes with 259 Three pointers which places her #6 all time at UCONN currently behind KML who is in at #5 with 277.

Bria's free throw in Semi-final against Stanford was 3 for 7; and in the Final against ND was 3 for 5. Had she made all her free throws in the final 4, she would have had 2000 points.

I wanted so badly for Bria to reach the 2000 point level... as so few have done it... and she was so close. But for some odd reason I wanted Stef to get another 5 points to be ahead of Tiffany Hayes...

01N - I am just going to piggy back on your great post with the reprise of the stat watch I was running earlier.
So I did a few of these posts during the year and thought I would check back in on how the team stands vs. the Uconn record book.

To put Uconn's stats in perspective compared to the 343 D1 schools:
A/TO - #2 (Villanova at 1.89)
Asst/gm - #1 (ND #2 at 20.1)
Blocks - #1 (USCar - #2 240/7.1 pg)
FG% - #2 (ND at 50.6) (only two teams above 50% - so much for freedom of movement improving shooting percentage)
FG% Def - #1 (Hampton #2 at 33.4)
FT % - #25 (Iowa State at 80.4)
Personal Fouls - #1 11.8 (Nebraska #2 at 13.8)
Rebound Mrgn - #11 (Liberty 15.2)
Scoring Def - #1 (Presbyterian #2 at 53.5)
Scoring Mrgn - #1 (ND #2 at 24.4)
Scoring - #10 (Oregon 93.2)
Steals - #51 9.4 (Sacramento State 13.0)
3P % Def - #6 26.3 (La Salle 22.8)
3P/gm - #44 7.4 (Sacramento State 12.4)
3P % - #17 36.6 (Duke 40.7)
TO Margin - #14 4.90 (Wright State 9.89)
TO/Gm - #2 11.8 (Villanova 8.8)
The most impressive numbers to me are MOV 9.9 points better than #2 ND, FG % defense as 2.4 % better than #2 Hampton, personal fouls 2 fewer than #2 Neb, and scoring defense 5.6 points less than # 2 Pres.
And compare these stats to Sweet Sixteen teams - scoring defense #2 USCar at 55.8, 8 points more, FG % Def - USCar 34.6, Personal Fouls - Stanford 15.8. And add in A/TO - Baylor at 1.53, Stanford at 1.43, ND at 1.39

Just popping in to note that Bria did set the record for most minutes on the floor as a Husky, beating out Maya's old record of 4682 with a 4731 total. Stef finished 7th on the UConn list with 4141, the only post player to exceed the 4000 mark. Iron ladies both, and a tribute to both their toughness and success.
