States w/ highest % of HS football players recruited by a DI school

It would be interesting if they could break this down even more. Because, even though CCSU and Alabama are both considered DI, they are recruiting different level players. I would love to see this at least broken down to FCS and FBS recruitment.

How is VT not 0%? I have never seen a kid from VT on any D1 roster anywhere.

And I am surprised that WI, MI, IA and MN have such low percentages.

Agreed, seems to be a bit off there

The majority of D1 talent in those states play hockey.

Wow - CT is higher than TX and CA. I never would have thought that. Can TX really be only 2.7% ?

From the Football Scoop article:

>>It’s also a bit surprising to see Texas closer to the bottom 10 than the top 10, but a charitable reading on behalf of the Lone Star State would interpret that as the overall high school football culture in the state drives thousands of players on the field that have no shot at playing college ball (ahem, you’re looking at one of them) that compete out of pure love of the game. <<

This is the funny thing about percentages. In Texas, where 8.2 zillion people play football, sending 1 million into D-1 doesn't look so impressive...

Connecticut fairly reliably produces 2 NFL players a year. Think about it. We only produce about 9 D1 players. So our quality is very high.

Based on these results I'd like to see the top states that have division one recruits that stay home and go to an in state school. I'll bet Utah is up there, as is probably Texas and California.

It is a question of what data you want to look at. On a percentage basis we are "better" than Texas but in terms of actual numbers we produce 10 players compared to more than 320 or 30 times as many. Florida is the real hotbed though. Highest percentage and highest number almost every year.

We send more than 10 on average, I think it's somewhere in the teens. Last year we sent like 25 or 26, and not just to mid majors but some big time programs. Newtown High alone sent two, one to Michigan and one to BYU.

Connecticut sends far fewer than 20 to FBS schools each year. There are about 120 or so FBS teams. I used to chart it. The highest we sent was 16 back around 2005.

Last year it was in the 20's, I counted them. Give me some time and I'll post the names.

Texas pumps out massive numbers. 5% of all FBS football players are from Dallas-Fort Worth. Half of my son's high school team are playing college football somewhere, FBS down to NAIA.

But there are thousands of high schools and hundreds of thousands of football players in Texas. Many rural schools play 6-man football. Everyone plays.
