If my kid went to band practice and came home to say the band director was talking about the sites he visited, I'd have a real problem with that. The guy works with kids and that's not the type of person I think is appropriate to be around kids in a school setting.
Why is the adult coach talking about with the kids in the first place? If you read the article, giving to underage kids is against the law. And teachers, coaches and other adults that have authority over kids are rightly held to a higher standard when it comes to protecting children.
Alright, I'll get suckered in to one more post (and you can thank the Blue Moon Winter Abbey Ale).
We both agree that adults shouldn't be discussing anything with boys regarding pornography. And after all the PSU and now SU stuff we can see how young kids can be heavily influenced by coaches.
However, there's a humongous double standard in our society that most adult men buy in to. That is, high school boys are basically a walking, living, breathing hormone. And most adult men will tell you that almost anything that results in heterosexual consensual sex or masturbation, is in the overall scheme of things, harmless.
It's why there wasn't much outrage over the hottie blonde teacher in Tampa who had sex with high school boys. Almost every adult male that talked about the story led off with comments to the effect of "wish I was one of her students". And that story is repeated nationally a couple of times every year. We had a 20 something teacher here in west Florida run off to another state with a teenager last year.
When an adult male teacher is caught with an undeage female student he's labeled (rightfully so) as a sick predator. When a female teacher does it with a male student, it's a fullfillment of a fantasy.
Nan, we guys all know it's wrong and if were our own child we'd be pissed. But from afar with no stay in the battle, we shrug it off.
It's similar to being a teenager having to lie, bribe and steal liquor as a high schooler and having the coach provide it for you.
