from New Mexico. Tied at the half 35-35. Tara will have them adjusted in the second half I'm sure.

So, if Stanford loses New Mexico gets ranked ahead of them and UConn falls below both...

TAMU didnt blowout PVSU tonight. Thats a surprise

Doesn't appear Lili Thompson is playing. Karlie Samuelson has 5 threes so far.

.-.
Stanford had a 9-pt lead with 4 minutes left. Damn, that sounds familiar....

That loss is getting harder to take by the day. I know Thompson was out, but I think UConn would've beaten NM handily without Stewart.

.-.
Kaylee Johnson is a rebounding machine. she may break Chiney's rebounding record. I really liked her play against UConn.

65-64 New Mexico with 30 seconds left

On paper, the UNM Lobos are not in the same world as UConn or Stanford, or so it would seem. And yet, the Lobos came within 30 seconds of actually beating Stanford. Astonishing.

Maybe the parity that we've all desired for the sport is coming to fruition finally.

Thompson was ESPN's POW. She's really good.

But still ... Stanford was really good last Monday, but has struggled since.

Stanford relies HEAVILY on the 3pt shot. If they are hitting a high percentage like against UCONN, they are tough as they have two guards in Thompson and Orrange who can get in the lane and hit the mid range. I would have to say both of their sophomore posts have been a disappointment (McCall and Kailee Johnson). Their freshman KJohnson looks to be a very good player (though little offense). If their post develops by March, and their 3pt shot is falling, they can go deep in the tournament. But a lot will rely on their post and 3pt shot.

I think it's becoming apparently obvious that for whatever reason, UConn took Stanford lightly last week.

May be the team reads all those absurd score prediction of 30-40+ pts blow out that was posted by the BY last week ?

As did a large number of posters. I posted pre season that I wondered how the team chemistry would develop and one poster replied that "Dr. Geno" would take care of that in his lab. Hyperbole is fine but this is a different team than the past two years and Geno is searching hard to figure out the best roles for each player. For instance, Kiah has not yet stepped up as a senior to assume a greater role as both she and a number of posters predicted. We are only 3 games into the season and there is much work to be done.

If the standard for lightly is less serious than Stanford took UConn then that is likely true beginning with the UConn head coach. Tara has openly acknowledged in the past that she has spent weeks in advance preparing her team for UConn or Baylor a couple of years ago. Geno's philosophy is to focus on what he wants his team to do and doesn't put as much game planning effort into these games. Of course Geno wants to win, but his mentality is not win at all costs at this point in the season. I don't think 195-0 has ever been on Geno's list of goals.

There might be a more simple answer. The loss of Steph and Bria was a huge loss in terms of what they provided on the court...offense ran through Steph, presence of a second AA big, slasher and long range option in Bria, talented defender, two more options at the end of the shot clock, etc... and on the sidelines in terms of providing will and direction, settling down the team after a bad play. We haven't replaced that yet. The pieces are there, but the identity isn't yet. It will be by March.
