Box Score

Winners of five of their last six, the Bulls are 7-2 on the season and are coming off a 75-69 win at Dartmouth on Tuesday night. Buffalo will put its 14-game home winning streak on the line when the Cardinal comes to town.

The Bulls are led by Cierra Dillard who is averaging 25.8 points per game. The senior guard continues to lead the nation in scoring. The Bulls have gotten a boost from Summer Hemphill who returned to the lineup against Dartmouth. The sophomore forward had 24 points and 14 rebounds against the Big Green.

Stanford is 8-1 on the season, with its lone loss coming against 21st-ranked Gonzaga. The Cardinal is led by Alanna Smith who is averaging 18.2 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. Stanford's Hall-of-Fame coach Tara VanDerveer grew up in Niagara Falls and is a graduate of Buffalo Seminary.

Didn't realize Stanford was following up Baylor-Tennessee back to back games with another quality opponent. They get a little break w/ CSUN at home on 12/29 before starting conference play.

The halftime score is very surprising. Stanford is going to have to scrap.

It was 27-22 at the half. Smith and Dillard with 13 pts ea to lead their teams. Defensive battle continues in the third.

EARLY start to this game for Stanford. I suppose it works both ways, Eastern teams travelling west have fairly late games because of time zone differences. But that's even an early start for East Coast time for a weekday.

37-33 Stanford near the end of Q3. Low scoring affair. Smith has 17 of Stanford's points, Dodson 9 off the bench, rest of the team hasn't woken up yet? Carrington is 1-6 after her awesome performance against Tennessee.

edtied--Dillard also has 17, and 10 for Hemphill; both teams only getting scoring from 2 players

Highlight reel play there. Dllard on the fast break with the behind-the-back dribble and then behind-the-back pass and assist for an and-1 opportunity. Buffalo misses the FT but gets the rebound and Dillard ends up draining a 3 to cut the lead to 2. Whoa.

These MAC teams giving the top-10 teams all they can handle.

Stanford 2-14 on three-pointers and 34% overall. Sometimes shots don’t go in.

Stanford cold from 3, and Buffalo's collapsing zone makes it tough to score inside. Meanwhile Stanford's D is mostly very effective on Buffalo.

Stanford lead back to 6, under 4 minutes left. Smith has 24 points and 13 rebounds, big day for her.

edited...and 5 assists

Fingall chipping in w/ 12 points and 7 boards, Stanford now up 54-44 w/ about 2 1/2 min. left.

Smith finding the range from 3, 4-9. 30 points. 60-48 Card inside a minute left. Gonna get another good win. They have had quite a week!

Stanford looks like they'll weather the challenge. Buffalo had multiple chances to tie or take the lead in mid-4Q but couldn't cash in. Still a good showing for them.

Alanna Smith has just been huge. At 30 points she has half of Stanford's total.

Alanna Smith's line including multiple killer 3's at the end

30 PTS, 13 REB, 5 AST , 3B;ks (although 5TO)

She came on strong the end of her soph year. Got off to a really tough start her Jr. year before playing better starting around the midpoint. Finally got off to a good start and showing the nation what she can do.

Buffalo tightened the game up inside the last minute, 62-55 final.

chilly 3 point shooting for both teams--Stanford 5-20 Buffalo 6-29

edited--remove Smith and Stanford was 1-11

Alana Smith is a legitimate candidate for POY

Stanford has had brutal stretch with Baylor, Tennessee and on the road here
Smart Tara. They'll be ready come Conference title and Dancing time.

Can't wait for the PAC-12 season to start. There will be upsets, and, between ASU/OSU/UO/Stanford, there will be no team escaping PAC-12 play undefeated.
