I know UConn fans stand until the team scores, and I saw it mentioned that USF does the same.

Out here in AZ, fans stand until Arizona is scored upon, and the same practice was noted at ASU. I also think (but am not certain) that Tennessee does this, which could account for AZ, since our head coach (at least for 1 more game - not sure she survives) is Naya Butts that played at TN.

Of course at Rutgers, fans don't stand at the beginning of the game at all, although there was an attempt to initiate a specific RU chant until the team scored, but it never went off.

Curious if the BY folks have any idea if the players appreciate or even notice this. My point is that it is so "routine" - as opposed to in-game, where players or coaches might try to excite the crowd to stand up. That I know players notice, although it doesn't always have an affect.

I think it can have an effect... with all the clapping going on also.

Im sure it pumps them up but Im sure its becomes a problem after a few misses.

this would be a great question to ask the players

mostly it annoys the fans of opposing teams who don't want to stand or don't understand what's happening. ;-)

At Stanford, fans stand for the opening tip, but sit down as soon as someone controls it. This season there is a scoreboard video where players say "It's a Stanford tradition! Everyone get on your feet", but some dolt has been playing it at the start of the second half instead of the start of the game. And nobody gets up.
