Surprisingly there is only one meeting during the Staley era.

Carolina beat Louisville by 24 in its Championship year in the Coaches vs Cancer maybe? Some arranged neutral court game.

South Carolina leads the overall series 17-4 dating back to the Gamecocks' dominance of the Metro.
It was at the Hall of Fame in Springfield. I was at the game and attended a MBB game while I was up north, too. Alaina Coates had a great game against Louisville.

in the postgame presser Walz scoffed at a reporter and brought up something about that Louisville hadn't made it to sweet 16 in 32 years when he took over the program, then he said to the reporter "If you want the narrative to be that we can't win the big one then fine write that narrative, but I like to build kids up instead of tearing them down."
I agree with building kids up, but don't act like you weren't high and mighty when you were on top of the world and ranked #2 and were bragging about a win over Uconn when they had 6 players available.

Props to Coach Staley. She continues to shine and do well. Out coached Walz and had her team fired up. Great win for South Carolina and Coach Staley.

Geno and Jeff are friends, yes a win against UConn, in Connecticut, is a big deal. The coaches of those teams that beat UConn when they were depleted also made a big deal of the win.

I lived in CT at the time and was at that game as well!

I sat in front of Alaina's dad. Alaina had a great game that day and he was a big ol' softy for it all.. it was great to see. Immediately thought about that memory when I'd heard he passed. Tore me up inside.

thanks for amusing us, Walz got outcoached 100000% by Dawn
I did think her pressing in the last 2:00 minutes to slow them down was a smart move...a couple of quick 3's and it is a 3 point game. Instead they got a couple of turnovers; but bottom line, the best player in the country could not be stopped.

Absolutely would have been an upset if a 6 point underdog and inferior team had won. But the upset happened on the other side, which eases some concerns about the last game.

Did not watch the game, but I figured like that infamous Baylor game, Louisville would need to make some noise from 3 against SC - that they shot 1-8 was not going to do it, but that they shot only 9 threes (with four of them in desperation mode at the end of the game) really surprised me. They averaged 14+ 3pt shots per game this year.

I don't read anywhere in the Huskiefan23 post where he asserts that Dawn "can't coach." He says Dawn is beatable and adds hat Geno is too.

You should be addressing Basket.

I think TCC was addressing the thread topic more than Huskiefan23 was. When the thread topic is clearly "who wins the coaching war", and Huskiefan23 says "it's not about coaching".......

Yeah, and Louisville is the most overrated team since day one. Dawn is a great coach but she is human too. She has one Natty over Jeff, but they have been at their respective programs about the same amount of time and their Sweet Sixteen, Elite 8 and Final Four appearances are almost identical. OBTW, USA basketball loves them both.

That game was an awful setting. On TV it looked like less than 500 on hand. No crowd at all. Kudos for being there. SC dominated. How’d you like Fenway?

L’ville was an 8 point dog. Would have been a decent upset. L’ville doesn’t have the talent SC does. L’ville posts are average though Cochran played well. Boston was great but I was impressed with Beal and Cooke in the backcourt. Beal’s size was too much on D for Hailey Van Lith.
L’ville deserves credit for getting to the final four. There road wasn’t the hardest, Albany, Gonzaga, Tenn (without best player) and Michigan who they beat by 22 previously. L’ville beat who they were supposed to and lost to who they were supposed to. Cards got to the final four because there aren’t that many really good teams. There’s more parity which is fun but the top 10 aren’t that deep

The win for L’ville over UConn was huge for the L’ville fans and players. No chance L’ville would have won if Paige played. Easy to forget UConn wasn’t 100% after you get the win.

I have a soft spot for Coates, she had had the most unfortunate WNBA career. She missed out on her first season due to a season ending injury in college. Then she tragically losses her father only a month or so before her WNBA debut and I know she was a huge daddy's girl too. I hope she can put the pieces together and keep a roster spot this season.

Huh? The game was in Springfield, not Boston. I've been to Boston a number of times, but not on that trip.

Er, whoopsie, I mistook MBB for MLB but now that I think of it it would be pretty difficult to take in a baseball game in December

One of Dawn's main defensive principles is running the opponents of the 3-point line. Teams usually are well below their average on 3-point attempts and percentage. In fact, SC is #1 in the country when it comes to that stat.

I go with Walz for another reason. This was before Friday's game.
