St. John's Post Game Thread

Saturday night, after a very bad loss, we'll have to chalk this one up to excessive drinking, drug use or other impairment. There is no other excuse that makes any sense. I guess the poster could always use the excuse that someone hacked into their Boneyard account. That's certainly a valid excuse also.
No excuse, sorry

For what its worth, had Chinese takeout during the game last night. Opened the fortune cookie today. The quiet whisper of germinating mojo.

It will be interesting to see if the Boneyard theory on the BE refs is accurate.
There are two aspects to this theory in my view. First, it requires NCAA refs to officiate in the "rock fight" style play of the BE. Second, the team we are playing, must be very good at playing that style. Being physical without fouling is a skill. Some teams do it better than others. SJ is one of the best in the country at playing it. The favoritism practiced in the BE is not about teams or "against us", it is about favoring a style of play.

Teams will try and impose this style on us, if the refs allow it. But the opponent must be built for this style, to beat us. We saw in the SJ game in Hartford that we can play this style, but it is something we want to avoid. We need to play our game, because that is what we are better at.

EDIT: Being physical without getting called for a foul is the skill.

With that big east championship performance, thoughts on declining an invite all together instead of taking an even more humiliating loss to a 15 seed? Especially with Silas potentially out. Just go back to the drawing board and come back better next year.
You've only posted here twice. Are you related to @Iluvsuebird by any chance?

I’m hoping it was some next level Andy Kaufmann level humor or something. If not. It’s literally the worst post ever here and there’s been some unreal
Things posted over the years.

You gotta admit, it's unique. No 2 seed widely considered one of the top 6 choices to cut down the nets has ever flat out turned down the tournament invite to focus on regrouping. We'd be in the news, I know that.

What's your preference should we make it to the second weekend?

Florida, Michigan, Duke or Arizona. All 4 are really good, all 4 are vulnerable. I'd like to avoid Boozer and Duke just because he's the best player.

As for avoiding 3 seeds in the S16 (assuming UConn, Houston, Iowa St and Michigan St are the 2s), the only team I might want to avoid is Kansas on the chance Petersen goes off and become unstoppable.

Especially if we take the posters logic in regards to preventing more humiliation. Because turning down the tourney would be a moment of integrity.

I think you're thinking about the 2005 team that played the first weekend in Worcester. The 2006 team started in Philadelphia and then played in Washington DC.

Guess I gotta root against getting the East region then

I’ve read every post here, I know there is a ton of fault to go around, but sometimes you have to look in the mirror. This loss was partially on me. My first time ever flying to Europe/Italy, and I failed to wear my UConn gear on the flight. No hat, no sweatshirt. I always rep UConn when flying.

Next thing we'll find Hurley forgot his dragon underwear.

The problems with this team were exposed in January and it is really disappointing they haven’t been able to make any adjustments or improvements.

1. Can’t inbound the ball
2. Sloppy lazy passes and become TOs.
3. Jacking up quick threes on a key possession where they really need a basket.
4. Lack of focus and sense of urgency (unless they just lost a game)

All 4 of these seem like correctable problems yet the team has made no improvement
The major problem we have is we have very few players who can beat you off the dribble. The opposing teams are choking off the 3 point shots. Thats ok but you have to drive by the players and finish at the rim. The only player we have that can do that is Silas. Mullins can drive and pull up and make shots but he’s not strong enough at this point in his career.

Ball is also pretty good at driving and then pulling up for short shots. I wish he would do that more.
