Why did Pitino pull Zuby after that early first foul? Zuby's body language dodn't look good after the hook.

I don't agree. SJU did a lot of screening. Our switching was impeccable. The path to the lane was blocked most of the night. We also did a much better job identifying who to leave open at the arc and who needed to driven off the three point point line after the switch. We knew who to go under and who to go over. Hurley made this point himself in the post game. Tarris's timing on the hedge was also very good. That allowed him back in he lane and resulted in six block and numerous clogged middles.

The switching was definitely a coaching move by Hurley. Make no mistake, this was a different game plan from New York.

excellent point. Hurley's weakness (I think) is stubbornness and adjustments AT TIMES. I remember the layup line we gave to Seton Hall a couple of years ago, as we guarded three point line, didnt give help, and rotations were weak. A few weeks later the adjustment we made in the tourney defensively against Arkansas made us a different team (similar to last night).

Last night we were flashing to middle, and went deep once on the press break -proof of practice adjustments. I love that Danny will make adjustments in time, a sign of coach who still has humility- his statement about misuse of the bench was another example of his 20/20 introspective coaching, which I sometimes thinks he lacks. Happy to be wrong on that.

It is hard to break habits. Khalid El Amin would have hit Mullins in stride.

He said in definitive terms that the team was bad. That’s not true. The team wasn’t playing to their potential. Big difference.

Honestly, they weren’t even “bad” just by objective standards, they were 20 games over .500.

That's one I can excuse.

However, the ones the other day where someone on here was calling Donyell Marshall "Donnell" were completely out of line. I would have pointed it out but I knew you'd be all over me for it so I refrained from commenting.

Okwundi is excusable? I guess I dno the standards then. You freaked out on a dude when it was a clear typo but then a good and knowledgeable poster butchers Okwandu and you’re good. I guess I’m just confused.

Not to mention, game day ______ (blanking on his name at the moment - Connor?) emphatically announced him as Chuck Okwandi. Very clearly enunciated “eye” sound to end his name. So, if you were there last night, maybe that carried over into your typing the name.

The Donnell posts were killing me, too. The guy is only one of the best players we've ever had

I don't believe we had less high hedge. It was just closer in. At the top of the arc and not out beyond it. That allowed Reed to be in the lane with a step or two and able to block clog the middle. As for pace, we and more fast break points than usual but we basically ran the half court at our usual pace.

It took Steph some time to look beyond his years. There was a good stretch of the season when he was our weak link offensively and looked lost - broken jumper, air balls in the lane, bad reads, didn't fit in our system, etc. It came together piece by piece, and then he had some takeover moments in March/April where he looked more like a lotto pick.

The strength of this draft makes Mullins a bit of a unique case in our history (Liam might not be a first rounder in this draft even if he came back). The fact that we are in the NLI era makes the risk/reward situation a little different than it used to be. He could make good money next year and then double his first NBA salary by moving up a bunch. I think he could improve a ton and take advantage of a weaker draft - he still isn't all that great at getting open in our offense (Solo is several orders of magnitude better at freeing himself around screens in a position to shoot), and his playmaking has several more levels to reach.

However, there is also just the "dream of playing in the NBA" factor where players sometimes just want to get to the league ASAP and not look entirely at the business/financial elements.

Interesting comment...did you hear the Hurley interview where he was telling our guys to play for each other....very diff culture

Hurley is old school but Pitino is really really old school. Hurley has learned how to handle modern young NIL era players, Pitino has not. Telling them their grandmother hates them during a huddle doesn't work anymore 😂.
