St. John's Post Game Thread

We aren’t a top 5 team. Can’t rebound, can’t hit free throws, can’t defend, can’t beat pressure. Smith was unplayable forcing Silas to get worn down by the end. We shot well but were terrible at everything else. The elite 8 is the ceiling for the team.

If they don't hit their free throws they probably don't get out of the first weekend.

Didn’t play well, which had to do a lot with St. John’s- with that said- also had a lot do with the refs- three calls down the stretch that were not fouls that kept St. John’s in the game- 31 to 12 free throw discrepancy is pretty outrageous by the refs especially when St. John’s took the same amount of three pointers as us.

We shot ourselves in the foot so many times tonight. so damn sloppy. Outright disgusting at times.

But, a team as physical as St Johns only gave up 12 FTs all night?

Felt like the refs were making some calls for the "benefit of the league" tonight.

I commend Hurley for his restraint....I'd have been going nuclear.

With about a minute left, they had shot 15 more free throws than us, we had turned the ball over a ton, gotten out rebounded... And we still were right there. Some egregiously bad calls/no calls (the Silas push was the worst one IMO) but had we not played so sloppy we still win that game despite the officials.

As navery said this was a much needed wake up call. Confident we will rebound from this and be better in the long run.

Huh?

I'm a skeptic as much as the next guy but to say we aren't a Top 5 team is a stretch...despite voters agreeing with you on Monday.

We have two losses...one against the #1 team and one against the pre-season #5, soon to be top 15 team.

St John's bullied us and we failed to respond once it was 45-45.

A concerning number of red flags tonight. We can’t handle the press. Our offense was stagnant at times. Ridiculous number of turnovers. Horrific foul shooting.

Sloppy Play, 6 bench points, turnovers, missed free throws… same issues, nothing changes

All the cheerleaders enjoyed this I hope.

UConn played absolutely terrible but that was not an evenly called game. St John’s was at the line all game. You’re never going to win with on the road against a good team with a nearly 3-1 foul shot disparity.
The miss of the lane violation at the end there ticked me off more than the # of fouls called. I now agree with the Boneyard that Big East refs suck.

Doesn’t help that the guy that gets to the line the most is a 56% FT shooter.

Don’t know what happened to the aggressive Stewart and Ross we saw the past couple of
Games they went back to being passive.

Silas was amazing tonight outside of a couple of lapses just got worn down. Smith needs to get it together to give Silas a blow.

Silas showed his nuts, except for all the missed FT's.
Alex showed up on O, but Hopkins owned him for the third straight year.
For some reason, UConn's guards think Reed can do the alley oop on dribble penetration against legit D1 teams.

Schschit happens.

Win out, as UConn should, and #1 East is still the reality. Lose games they shouldn't? Face the consequences.

Free Throws matter a lot and missing them will hurt them in the tourney along with the turnovers.

Bottom line you have to make plays when it counts

Hopefully UConn learns the lesson if you miss FTs, have sloppy unforced TOs on offense , and have an unfavorable whistle you wont beat a good team. St Johns is not a great team, but they are solid and athletic and ST Johns will always have refs backing them in any Big East conference game. If UConn shoots 80% from FTs they probably pull this out. Demary was under pressure all night and it as really disappointing Smith couldn’t back him up today
It was 31-12 attempts. Yes we missed them but that’s a lot to overcome

Silas had 9 turnovers....he was not amazing.

We need to get some firepower from the portal. St John’s was bigger, more athletic, more physical. The country has adjusted to our offense. We need to get players that can beat defenders.
