Just finished reading an article by Lenn Robbins in today's NY Post about 3 of the Johnnies incoming recruits being declared ineligible by the NCAA. Norvel Pelle, JaKarr Sampson, and Amir Garrett were ruled not academically eligible to enroll at St. Johns. Seems as though the 3 each took 3 classes at Northeast Prep in
philly this summer and got all A's. The NCAA questioned the validity if the grades, and both St Johns and the players couldn't provide the additional documentation the NCAA asked for. Robbins also notes in his article that for the last 6 years St Johns graduated every 4 year player that came through the program under former coach Norm Roberts. No comment from Steve Lavin or Pres Fr Donald Harrington. At a time when conference expansion rumors come and go this isn't good news for Fr. Harrington who has the attitude that the football schools (even original schools like UConn & Syracuse) should stand in the corner and do what they are told by the basketball schools.
