with the dumbest strategy I’ve ever seen. If he a) thought they could run with UConn and win he’s an idiot or b) if he knew they couldn’t, but that’s the way they play then he betrayed his own players.

St. Francis coach is really between the proverbial rock and a hard place, but I agree... this is one of those times you needed to go away from your normal style of play because they have no chance trying to run with the Huskies. Should have slowed it down and tried to have one of those out of body 3 point shooting games.

They had exactly 0 chance to win this game and he knows it. Let your kids score some points and play their style. Some here are overthinking it. Enjoy the route.

Wasn't it the Longhorn coaching great Darrel Royal who first said it:
"Ya dance with what brung ya."

I understand that playing an up tempo game is what got St. Francis to where they are, but that is also UConn ball. I am glad that St. Francis didn't play like UCF. That style of play against UConn, sets my nerves on edge.

But he didn’t use ONE time out during this massacre. Ok, “I get” this is your style, but some of this is biting off your nose to spite your face...
He must of had the scout from Uconn-South Carolina. When Dawn called her first one with 1:51 left in half down 28!

Yeah as I was saying to the large hadron collider operator at CERN the other day, don't you think that you left the ion in filter too long to confirm the existence of the Higgs boson? But what does he know?

You have to know how to slow the game down. Playing like UCF does not happen on a whim. If St. Francis had tried it, two things would have happened: 1). the score would have been lower, with UConn still winning; 2. The StF kids could have enjoyed it a lot less. Their coach made the right choice and probably knew exactly what would happen.

And I may be dense, but I do not see how sticking to their style -- riding the horse that got them there -- is "betraying his players" for crying out loud. They are not mindless dummies. They all knew what was going to happen. He told them to play their style, not someone else's , to have fun and enjoy the experience.

One of the comments made during the game was that the St Francis coach had asked, prior to the game, what the record was for 3-pt shots in a game. That tells me that the Red Flash were going to have some fun, go for broke and see what happened.

Good for them.

I understand that shooting 3's is their thing but speeding up the game to give us more possessions isn't a good idea. If he had only slowed down their offense to use most of the clock they 1) might have gotten off better shots than some of the heaves they put up and 2) they would have minimized the damage we were doing to them by reducing the number of our possessions. Next time. . .

But that's not how they play. You can't just ask your team to do something they haven't done all year. It would be like Coach Abe telling her team to play up tempo. Coach Haigh was going to continue to do what got them to a 24 win season.

It seemed that SF was content to give up easy points early in the shot clock so they could race back up court and heave up quick 3 point attempt. Maybe setting the record for 3 point attempts was the goal even if you give up the most points in NCAA tournament history.
