Spurs Trade Rumors

That Bane trade is what got me worried
I get that, but Bane is younger, under contract for longer, and is a perfect fit in Orlando. Some of those picks Orlando gave up were to help offset Memphis taking on a bad contact (KCP), and a not great contract (Cole Anthony). Just as importantly, none of what Orlando gave up is as valuable of an asset as Castle or Harper. I don’t think Durant is going to bring back as much as people think. I could be wrong.

Why would you want his vibe on a young team? 50 mill for an injury prone moody outside shooter. Nah..

It seems the general public overvalues the worth of #1 picks. Chances are none of the picks in the future will ever be as good as Bane is now. The Magic sees a window opening with their core and took action. That's how you do it.

I think people have the wrong takeaway about the Desmond Bane/Mikal Bridges/etc. trades. The general feeling I've seen has been Bane got 4 1sts, imagine what Giannis is going to command, when in reality I think it should be Bane got 4 1sts, you're not getting Giannis with an offer based around a bunch of picks

I'm with you, and I know exactly what you mean.

KD and Aaron Rodgers. Why the media and GM's continue to fawn and bend over backwards for players who haven't made a shred of difference when it comes to winning in years is beyond me.

Most of the time it was that Packer's D that killed them - but a couple of years are on Rodgers. Someone published some stats about Brady's D v. Rodgers' D over the years - numbers were eye-popping.

Giannis would require #2, Steph, #14 and either Vassell or Sochan, to start.

yea you're going to have actual talent going back in addition to draft capital

This is the right take. Orlando thinks it will be a playoff team for all of those picks and picks in the 20s just aren't worth all that much in the NBA. Now if an injury occurs they may find otherwise, but they are playing the odds. Even a bad team acquiring Giannis is probably no longer a bad team and the pick value declines for Milwaukee.

Was it still an overpay? Probably but the franchise needs relevance and with Tatum out and Boston over the 2nd apron, sees a legit shot to reach the finals next year.

It was always obvious that Rodgers was an exceptional talent, for a stretch that ended about half a dozen years ago he was as accurate throwing while on the move as anyone who ever played the game.

What irked me most about him was late in the playoff game against Brady's Bucs. Down seven, he had first and goal from (I believe) the eight yard line, threw three incompletions, then got angry when they kicked a FG. If they were going to win that game they needed a TD, a defensive stop and a second score (the TD and the second score could have been in any order). If the fourth down play was as sure of a score as he claimed (coming up empty there would have allowed a FG to put the game out of reach) why didn't he do that on one of the first three downs?

I'm a Packers fan so trust me I was not thrilled with him 100% of the time. But just trying to be fair. A couple of those losses were on him. And Favre blew a few also. Both of them having only one ring is underperformance to be sure.

No Durant for the Spurs. Maybe they make a move for Giannis, but Castle is safe for now

KD's value must have been very low if that's all it took to get him.
He would only go to three places and one of them didn't want him. That hurts a team's leverage, I would think.

That and he's 36 (37 at start of season) and wanted an extension (reportedly) that basically pays him 50 million plus the next three years (37, 38, 39).

Honestly though the Rockets are a pretty amazing fit. Tons of young athletes to pick up the slack when he sits, gets hurt, or just is a step behind on defense (from his peak) and he can close games for them as he is still one of the best scorers in the game. This could make them contenders in the West (though still behind the Thunder).

The Spurs are probably at least two years from being real contenders, I imagine their (realistic) goal this year is the playoffs.

Houston is a little behind OKC in terms of a rebuild, but they did a very good job of acquiring young talent. They definitely needed a veteran to lead the way for them in the playoffs, I'm just not sure Durant will be the guy. Still, I think it was a no brainer for them.
