Spring Ball 2023

.-.
Who all was there watching from the BY? Anyone? The QB tea leaves are saying what, exactly, anything at all? Fagnano throws a nice long ball is it?? ZT has added some muscle mass? Roberson almost back? How did Millen look at safety?

.-.

Looks like the expanded crop of PWO's will pay off quickly in the form of Teddy Williams. Not surprised it would be him, he had a monster senior year in high school (offense & defense) and some thought he was the best player in the state in 2021. Maybe he can be the next Marcus Easley. You never know with a WR, 5'10" Steve Largent famously ran a 4.7 40 yard dash.

I was a bit late for game but watch for a solid hour. Roberson did not play, ZT was bigger but didn’t thrown deep Ball or down middle much, lots of short stuff and typical ZT. A bit crisper on the passes. Fagnano looked uncomfortable out there and missed some receivers. But again, if you like tight Spiral - how the ball looks - he did threw some beauties that missed the mark.

Since the announcers did not announce the game - which IMO was a mistake - they could have spotlighted plays a bit - it was hard to keep eyes on everything happening on the filed.

What I left with yesterday, is ZT is progressing to be a solid contender. But from an excitement level, McDonald impressed - goes though progressions and released ball so well - did not look a freshman. He may upset the status quo at QB.

The walk out from Norwalk, CT was a beast.

Sorry wish had more for you on Millen, I was glad to see him out there though.

Its pretty hard to read into practice as its brother vs brother and both the D and the O are playing vanilla. But if I had to narrow my thoughts into just a few points, then I suppose I would say that;

1) At QB, its an open race and in a good way.
2) We will have an even bigger run game in 2023; Houston can really accelerate and Edwards is a terrific depth piece.
3) Hard not to see the natural fluidity of true Freshman Dawdry and Harper.
4) As practice wore on I thought Watts just got better and better and better.
5) Overall we seem to have good to great depth at most positions.

As for participation, here is what I noticed, if anyone has anything to add to this I would appreciate it.

Did not play:
1) Mitchell (forearm)
2) Rosa (?)
3) Ross (?)
4) Fitzgerald (leg)
5) Hardy (leg)
6) Murawski (leg)
7) Eldridge (?)
8) D. Harrison (?)
9) R. Brown - if he played I missed it.
10) Molette - if he played I missed it.

Rosa did not participate due to a high ankle sprain which occurred during last Saturday's (4/15) practice.

Two other guys that didn’t participate - no surprise

11) Roberson (leg)
12) K. Anthony (leg)

Did you see Nigel Fitzgerald at the game?
I did not notice him- if he was there.

My observations are just from the steaming - I didn’t make the drive.

Do we know what Roberson's status is? He has wearing a pretty heavy knee brace.

Recovering from that ACL tear from week 1 of last season. Supposedly recovery is going well and he should be ready for fall camp to compete.

I did a total knee at the end of October and skied eight times this year as physical therapy. My experience is not germane to this point, but I compared notes with a much younger athletic guy one day in the base lodge as we were leaving. A guy who races and is very good. He said he had replaced an ACL a year or two ago and that it was pretty much a year before he was pain free. This was the type of guy who would go into the pain cave without hesitation in his PT regimen.

I am thinking it may be still a bit early for Roberson. Maybe his pain is gone but there is still some strengthening to do. And quickness. To say nothing of a medical staff that thinks there is still risk this early.

I would rather the lad be treated cautiously.
