Beginning now ....Serena has taken 2 bathroom breaks right before the match, highly unusual and commentators are wondering if she is OK....

Tremendous first service game by Serena, ace ace ace etc. Wins game on second serve ace.... but loooks oddly subdued walking on the changeover

Serena up 2-0, utterly and ridiculously dominant so far. No points for Sharipova yet...!

after going down 0-30, Serena serves big again and plays some good defense during rallies, winning the third game. 3-0 first set.

I think Serena is OK :D

She caps it with a 120mph (194 kmh) serve down the T. Ace! Huge!

6-0, 6-1

Gold !!!! 24-karat type!

Dominating Win by Serena. She'll shortly be Ranked #1 as long as she doesn't have any injuries.

One would hope !!

It was far from a classic battle but Serena is so aggressive that when she's on there's really not much anybody can do. Her first service game was sick, her returns were consistently blistering and her final serve was the perfect capper.

Just ridonkulous !

As long as Serena stays healthy and plays a full schedule, she will get to #1. Both have been historical issues with her.

Congratulations to Serena and Venus for winning a third gold medal on doubles as well. USA! USA! USA!

The doubles Gold Medal match is not until tomorrow, I think 6 am EDT.

Whoops yeah that was the semis. But they've clinched a medal at least, so good start.
