Spencer Still Getting Under Peoples' Skin

Love KD - has a true love of the game, it's history. He is a one of the classier ambassadors of the sport. I'm sure he takes these moments yesterday like a "who does this guy think he is" and more of a laugh than getting his panties in a knot. The homers here love to flex.

If you watch that Netflix doc on the Olympics I don't know how you come away with any conclusion other than "this kid just loves hooping."

KD disrespected CAM by not even putting his hand up on that 'close-out', I'd bet CAM said something colorful about that.

.-.
It was fun to see Cam fired up and not backing down to KD, but I thought it was interesting how ALL his teammates who were interviewed said, in different ways, that his energy and competitiveness fires up the team. Even the HC said that the fans got fired up and that it was all around great.

I can't speak to if there was any "disrespect", but KD is a trash talker as well, so good for Cam for having something to say back, and having the game to back up his comments. I hope for a long and successful career for Cam. I suspect he will be a fan favorite wherever he goes, just like he was in Connecticut...

Really does - shows up court side for random college and high school games. He loves the sport, respects it and is a custodian of the game.

At that level trash talking is legitimately a requirement. I do think there is some rite of passage you have to through to earn it, Cam taking an authentic accelerated route ;).

Yeah, "classy ambassador of the sport" isn't quite how I'd describe him. He's surly, moody, sensitive, whiny and cries anytime anyone criticizes his game. He's an elite scorer but never led his team to anything in the postseason save for the period of time he quit on OKC and joined one of the already-best-ever franchises.

Legendary player and his Olympic performances have been incredible. But I don't know if "classy ambassador" is apt. KD literally has admitted to having multiple burner accounts on more than one platform so he can attack criticism, etc. It comes across as incredibly strange to me. You're one of the best players ever. It's ARod-ish without the total awkward narcissism thing.

The internet is not real life.

As subject matter, that was front & center within a skirmish between a few posters here in a different thread over the weekend.

It can be a fine line with guys like Cam. We've all known that super intense guy on your team or friend group that bugs you. But Cam seems to be that guy that the whole team loves. Watch the bench when he's playing and the interviews after the game. They aren't looking at him like a "try hard". They're going nuts. Also, note the confidence they have in his shot already. I looked up his highlights from last night. At 4 minutes left in the 2nd quarter he pulls up for a 3. GG Jackson (#45) throws his hands in there air as soon as Cam releases the ball.

Edited to ask a question: Would Cam be where he is if he had stayed at Rutgers? Not crapping on Rutgers or Pike. But did the exposure at UConn and showing he's a winner get him the two-way contract that is giving him this opportunity? In the end, he needs to earn it, but I can't help think that there are other guys out there that just never get that chance.

dude made a financial commitment to Bowie State University, an HBCU, to upgrade their whole gym and athletic facilities but responding to internet trolls is what is embedded in your mind.

Cam is Cam and he has the guts to trash talk with the best - I have ZERO problem with this, wish it was LeBron

It’s funny when you read comments that imply Cam would get his butt whooped etc. If you’ve known guys like Cam, you know they are good at everything AND they’re crazy. He’s a freak. He can play any sport and he can compete at any game. He ain’t going to be an easy mark in a scrap either. He and his brother are rugged and they aren’t wired for going down easy. Kid would probably throw a perfect combination and finish with an uppercut and people would be saying, “Cam should be a boxer”.

I’ve seen reports that the Suns players were referring to Cam as “Walmart Luka” before the game during warm ups. I don’t blame him one teeny bit for talking smack when he had the chance. And he didn’t start it.
