Another "excuse/hurdle" attempting to be removed... http://connecticut.cbslocal.com/201...ball-game-this-weekend/#.VfG3_lU75Kl.facebook

>>(East Hartford, Conn./CBS Connecticut) – A day after surpassing one million riders, the state Department of Transportation is announcing expanded service of its CT Fastrak service to Saturday’s UConn football games at Pratt and Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field.

The state Department of Transportation says specially marked buses will leave The Travelers on Main Street in Hartford every 15 minutes for the stadium between 10:15 and 11:15 a.m.

DOT says fares will range from $1.50 per person for up to two hours travel time and $3 for an all-day pass.
Seniors and the disabled ride for $0.75.

The first Fastrak bus will depart the stadiuim 15 minutes after the conclusion of the third quarter; from there, the remaining buses will leave a half-hour after the game.

In addition, all active duty military personnel will get to ride the bus to the game free this Saturday and September 26 when they present a military I.D.

UConn plays army this Saturday and hosts Navy in two weeks.<<

Outstanding news. I would love if CT Transit ran some of its routes that it does during business week to get people from all points of the state to the stadium.

That would make too much sense.

I am going to give this a shot from Southington. Hoping that I don't have to call UBER in downtown Hartford.

This is going to take some major coordination from the State, The Rent and the East Hartford Police if it's going to work. Fans have to see getting on a bus in downtown Hartford to go to The Rent as reliable as hopping on the no. 4 train was to get to Yankee Stadium (or the D train from Riverside to Fenway).

Also, there had better be a designated location and time of departure from The Rent after the game, too. Not sure if any of you have ever been to Rutgers, but they have basically a single bus that shuttles back and forth from Rutgers Stadium to the New Brunswick train station -- that's it. There needs to be a better option.

I'd be comfortable with giving the bus a dedicated lane in before and out after, and also carving out a "bus stop" within the Blue Lot -- but that's going to take planning and I hope that has already been done.

Says they are entering the stadium via a special entrance and dropping off users near the stadium. Last bus leaves 1 hour after the end of the game.

Thanks. I don't understand why this is tied to the Busway. It sounds like they could have had a regular old CT Transit bus run from the downtown area by Travelers and the Old State House from the moment the stadium opened. Alas, 13 years later, we're finally making progress...

Actually, the reason the bus to the stadium is tied to the busway is simple politics. They can count those numbers as busway riders thus hyping what looks like lagging ridership. It's the same reason previously existing feeder lines are now apparently included in busway numbers.
Never the less a bus from downtown to the stadium is a descent idea and probably 10 years overdue.

I certainly questioned the busway when it was announced. Don't get me wrong, I love the idea of improving mass transit, I just thought priority should be on rail. With that said, I drive into hartford every day for work and although some fast track buses I pass only have a few riders, many are at capacity.

Love the idea of utilizing this service for uconn games.

I will absolutely be using this for the Navy game, partially because my car got totaled this week.

After the game there were two empty busses waiting outside Gate C.

Sounds good. If they're making a de facto "bus station" there, I'd hope they'd accommodate buses to/from Storrs (you can take Silver Lane east away from I-84 and get right on I-384) and also cabs, Uber, etc.

We used it today and unless i am going to tailgate, i will use it every time. From pick-up to unload to about 15 minutes on arrival. Exiting took about 20....total. it was organized and almost too easy. Having a latge crowd will be a test, but today it was perfect.

Where were the drop-off and pick-up points at The Rent?
The drop and pick up spot was the end opposite of the scoreboard. We had our own lane going in and out. The passengers cheered as we drove by the sitting cars in line.

That's fantastic -- unless you have that kind of advantage, a mass transit system is never going to work. Good to hear.

Roll call: Who besides me was on the first bus to leave after the game ended? We need a Boneyard secret sign to make while boarding. I live in downtown Hartford so this is a great thing!
