Big 4th quarter by Australia, complete collapse by Spain, or some of both?

Intense and interesting game. The crowd was very loud, especially with anything involving Cambage.

The Aussies were up about 18-6, as Spain had trouble scoring or stopping Liz. Then Spain got on a roll and cut the lead to about 7 after Q1. They took a small lead just before halftime and extended it to 58-50 after 3Q, but the Aussies went on a 9-0 run to take the lead. It was back and forth with bodies flying all over. The Aussies executed a little better over the last 2 minutes to take the win.

This is somewhat helpful for team USA, as there will be little home court advantage for either team. Playing Spain on their home court would have been OK, but not the most desirable situation.

Not a collapse by Spain. Australia came out to start the 4th on a 9-0 run to take a 1-point lead. Then it was back and forth until the last 2 minutes. Spain's execution and shooting hurt them in the final minutes. Liz kept making FTs.

I think the emotional nature of this game will work against the Opals. They have to be pretty drained and they have less time to recover than the deeper US squad.

Yeah, recovery time can be critical. The U.S. had the early game on Friday and thus had 6+ more hours of recovery than the Belgians. Our game last night was easier than the Aussies' game and 2.5 hours earlier.

The Spain game precedes the U.S. game tonight. I'll be curious as to what the crowd does. I doubt they leave, though some may. They tend to root for the underdogs, but I'm not sure they will for Cambage. She was booed heavily last night, though she tried to make up with the fans after the game.

I'm looking for some good basketball today.

SO will the game be on ESPN as earlier believed? Or just $ ESPN? I know Milford, this is irrelevant to you. I'll look it up.

Anyone else worried about the gold metal game? If we start out slow again, Australia could make us pay.

As noted in the game thread, Australia was worn down by Spain last night and also had less recovery time. Combine that with our depth and it was a rather drama-free second half.
