Obviously non basketball news here, but this forum is probably a 40/40/20 split (Sox/Yanks/Mets)… and we are all thirsty for some breaking news.

I hear Cora has 5 years of NCAA eligibility left? Anyone know if he can play PF?

For years I always talked about how fortunate I was to be raised as a UConn fan and Sox fan. Seeing UConn the last 5 years gives me hope that the Sox will be back to what they should be sooner than later.

Not with that ownership group though, Henry is a crook.

Can Henry fire Breslow and then himself? They should have been the first ones to go.

I knew Cora was in trouble when in the game article the last 2 or 3 days they mentioned the clubhouse was like a funeral and players were just looking at their phones and nobody was talking. That's a toxic environment. I do think Cora had something to do with it because he wasn't happy with the players Breslow gave him and he let it be known. Players pick up on that stuff.

Thank God. Overdue. We can complain about Breslow or Chaim but this should be a good team as it is. Underperforming almost across the board. Two position players hit well, Contreras and Abreu (Story has been clutch at least). The only guys Cora doesn’t platoon and yank in and out of the lineup. His obsession with left/right matchups causes him to make terrible lineup choices and even worse bullpen decisions.

IKF doesn’t belong on the major league roster. Terrible signing by Breslow and irrelevant once they got Durbin. Duran should have been traded. But still there is no reason good hitters aren’t hitting and good pitchers aren’t getting outs.

I wish ownership fired themselves
They used to care about winning. But ever since they took on Redbird Capital as an equity partner all they care about is squeezing every last dime out of the franchise. It's all about the bottom line. Should have seen it coming. All private equity ever cares about is the cash flow and the sale proceeds. I wish they would sell the team and take their profits, pay the capital gains tax and ride into the sunset. It's time.

Luckily for the coaching staff the Mets were rained out today.....they're next on the chopping block. The GM is really the one that should be gone but not likely a month in.

I'm not a Mets fan and don't follow them but how do Mets fans feel about Steve Cohen? He wants to win very badly and has spent lots of his own money to try to win but it doesn't seem to work. So I guess you need to have the will to win, spend the money, but also make good decisions.

They did NOT fire everyone. They whacked Cora and the entire hitting coach apparatus. Pitching side looks to have emerged unscathed.

Yeah, he abuses the bullpen horribly. Pulls starters too early, pitches guys and they cruise through the inning in 10 pitches, then pulls them for no reason. Gets to late innings having used everyone other than the closer.

The lineup isnt great, but none of the hitters seem to go up with a plan. So, that's the hitting coach. It was time to let at least those 2 go.

Steve Cohen is light years ahead of the Wilpon's....he has the money and will spend, just poor decisions (by those he's hired mainly). Eventually one hopes the right mix of management & players will pan out.

Yeah some of the hitting metrics are just plain strange. They're one of the worst teams at swinging at pitches in the zone (they swing the least). And one of the worst teams at swinging at pitches outside the zone (chase rate). The talent isn't really there but the plan of attack isn't either.

They have SIX guys hitting below .200. And 4 SPs w ERAs over 6. But let’s fire the coaching staff.

Smart

Why should they be good? Because Driveline doesn't lie? Cora kept that clown show alive for as long as he could. Another job is his whenever he wants it. Do we have to rethink the the Mookie trade now? Betts can't stay healthy and Connor Wong is the Sox best hitter.

Guys who have been good before aren’t good. It’s not complicated. Wong played hurt all last year. He’s not bad. Rehashing the trades doesn’t matter. There is lots of young talent and the owners were cowards and didn’t just go through the rebuild that was needed. Bogaerts should have been traded.

What did ownership and Breslow do to improve this franchise the past few years, especially after last season?

While other top franchises were spending money to improve or retain their top players, other than trading for Crochet, the talent has been leaking out.

Who on this team, other than Crochet is a must see player?

Bad ownership and general management. Maybe Cora has lost the locker room, but he simply wasn't given the players needed to field a competitive product. Granted some of the players have been underperforming so far, but the overall lack of talent isn't enough to weather that.

Hard for me to even consider spending my time watching this team when the front office has really effed up and is using the coaching staff as scapegoats.

Cora's time was coming. He had overstayed his welcome with his awful lineups and not developing the young stars appropriately. Not saying Cora was the only reason as the lack of any power hitters on this team is criminal and besides Crochet whi else is a power pitcher for the starters? Only way Red Sox will be permanently fixed is John Henry sells the team as he is just living off past laurels and not willing to spend anything for a top market team like the Red Sox.

It's funny. The owners treat the team like they are in a low to mid-major market, mix and match players in such a way that they can't field a competitive team, and then blame the coaches. It's sad, really.
Well Cora wasn't a great manager. Not letting Rookies young players to play more to protect their splits like Abreu and now Mayer this year while keeping a noodle arm Story at SS. He needs to play 2nd as he is an awful SS at his age. Playing light hitting IKF too much. Also, not even attempting to trade Duran or Yoshida(Paying off some of his salary) in the offseason was a big oversight.
