South Carolina Transfer-- Colley

I think this is the player who was being touted by the roosters visiting the board as their point guard of the future. Played on the Canadian Junior National Team.

I'm pretty sure she was a top PG or 2G in Canada - I think a starter on one of the Canadian national junior teams - I believe the U18/U19 group. It looks like she averaged almost 10 PPG but wasn't a starter on the 18/19 year old team. I recall hearing from SC fans who said she was supposed to be terrific and a great complementary player for Cuevas.

She was only 1 of 2 players signed for that class - Someone named Cliney was the other one. But she's not listed on HG so i'm not sure if she was a transfer or something else. I think SC is in a bit of trouble as they only landed 2 kids from 2016 and only 1 is even close to the top 30 (Bradshaw at #32 per HG). I'd say they are pretty desperate for a strong class from 2017...

This year is their best hope at a NC as they lose Sessions, Roy, Imovbiah, Mitchell and Dozier after this year. That's #2,5,6,7 and 8 on the scoring depth chart. And 3 of them are starters...

Colley was going to be a great pg for SC. She was very composed and a great complement to Cuevas. Was great in her last few games and it seemed like she was finally finding her offense. She's from Canada so I understand her desire to transfer but I am disappointed.

@ericsandiego She's actually the only player we signed that year. Cliney is redshirt, she came in with Wilson. As far as 2016, I like what I've seen from Bradshaw and Harrigan is an under ranked (in my biased opinion) stretch 4 that we can use in the high and low post, she also stretches to the perimeter. I like Harrigan a lot. We're also still in good position for Tyasha Harris, Dawn is working her hard. Colley leaving helps us with Harris even more. I don't think we're "desperate" for a strong class in 2017, but one would be lovely. I consider Tennessee to be "desperate" for a strong class in 2017, and that's not a slight. Just honesty.

I disagree, I think next year is our best shot at a national title. Wilson, White, Coates, K. Davis, Gray, Cuevas, Cliney, Duckett, T. Davis, Harrigan and Bradshaw. Rankings aren't everything but that's 7 McDonald's All Americans. I like that team a lot. Short on depth but 2017/2018 players looking at SC have to like that. We will miss the leadership from this senior class though.

Next year is best year for So Carolina to win a National Championship as Stewart and Jefferson graduate and who knows if Morgan Tuck stays. Plus So Carolina adds Kaela Davis and Allisha Gray to their roster. Not saying So Carolina can't win it this year, but beating UConn will be tough if they meet in Championship Game.

Oh yeah I keep forgetting about Davis and Gray. Davis was a top 3 kid and I think Gray was a top 10 kid. It will be interesting, but they lose an awful lot this year. 5 seniors and 3 of them starters. I agree that with UCONN losing Stewie and Moriah that opens the door for every other top team. But I'm not sure if what they add compared to what they lose will make them better next year or not.

Offensively, SC improves drastically at guard next year and still have Wilson/Coates in the post. They'll likely be better. The struggle for SC will probably be defensively.. Mitchell, Dozier and Sessions are very strong defenders.

I believe you'll have 5, not 7, McD AA's. Coates, Wilson, White, Cuevas and Davis. Don't believe any of the others were McD's AA's.

I tend to agree here.

PG Bianca Cuevas
SG Alisha Gray
SF Kaela Davis
PF Aja Wilson
C Alicia Coates

There are your five McDonald's AA who are all likely to start. Who knows how the chemistry will be, but replacing Mitchell and Roy/Dozier, with Davis and Gray seems to be a net upgrade in talent to those spots though it certainly will be hard to lose Mitchell.

Little scary having Cuevas and a true freshman as your point guard options though.

I'd guess Cliney, who I've been impressed with in her first few game appearances after all those injury concerns, and Jatarie White are your next two, but the depth starts getting interesting after that. Bradshaw and Harrigan and whomever else is new are going to get an opportunity to play early.

Cliney will get time at PG and even Davis could play a little PG. It will take a little time to adjust, but I think we'll be a little better next season by the end of the year. I'm sure going to miss this year's senior class, though.

Completely forgot about Tiffany Davis. We still basically have 2 more years with her, if she chooses to keep playing. Duckett MAY come back and I think Cliney could grow into a decent PG.. with the talent at guard and post next year all we really need is somebody to get the ball up the floor, but Cliney is an offensive threat as well so even better.

Harrigan and Bradshaw will definitely get early playing time.

I'm going to miss this senior class too, they're a special group.

Did Boykin land anywhere yet?
No. The other schools she was initially considering (before committing to UConn) were UNC, Virginia, Penn State, and Tennessee. Given the situations at UNC, that seems an unlikely destination. Tennessee and Penn State seem to be programs on the decline right now, although Tennessee certainly has a need for post players. That leaves Virginia, which might actually be better than when she was initially considering attending there. Here's an interesting possibility, although it is a huge long shot. What about Notre Dame? The Irish need post players and she would fit in very well in the motion offense, as she is a great glue player. The Irish need height, and she is a very good rebounder for her size. Notre Dame is not in the AAC, so she could become eligible there as quickly as anywhere. Of course Indiana is further away from home than Connecticut, so if she was serious when she said she wanted to be closer to home, it obviously wouldn't work out. (But sometimes saying that you want to be 'closer to home' is transfer-speak for I am unhappy where I am for whatever reason.) Then there's the academic issue. Was De'Janae having academic difficulties because she could not handle the academic expectations of college work, or was it due to a lack of attention to academics, where her poor performance in the classroom was more a result of her unhappiness with her situation last semester? I'll bet that De'Janae is intelligent enough to handle college work at UConn or Notre Dame, but if she left UConn and was not in good academic standing, she may have to complete some college coursework before being admitted. (I do not know the rules concerning this situation.)
