South Carolina remained the No. 1 team in The Associated Press women's college basketball poll on Monday despite experiencing its first loss of the season last week.

The Gamecocks fell to Missouri 70-69 in overtime Thursday on a last-second shot. South Carolina, which rebounded with a victory on Sunday, still received 22 of the 30 first-place votes from a national media panel to stay the top choice in the poll.

When was the last time you saw the number 1 ranked team in the country lose to an UNRANKED team, and not fall out of the top spot?

While I don’t agree, I’m not surprised.
Louisville looked terrible stumbling to a win, so no way they could make a jump.
Most interesting to me is LSU making a big move up and tracking UCONN-couple of slots behind.
I’m looking for a major improvement in UCONN’s play going forward.
They’ve had the time to make some adjustment and should be plenty rested.
Time for the seniors to put on their game faces and do some heavy lifting.

Louisville looked absolutely awful vs Georgia Tech yesterday. I don't know what the problem is with their offense, but it's really horrible.

If Van Lith gets hot and Engstler finds some consistency, they might make a believer out of me, but till then I'm not buying that they can go far.

I still had South Carolina #1 on my ballot.

South Carolina receives 22 of the total 30, Louisville gets 5 and Arizona gets 3 #1 votes. Missouri who beats South Carolina is Ranked #26.

Hard to move a team over them when they beat most of the teams just underneath them. With the schedule they played, they’re deserving of the road mulligan on their first loss of the season. If it had been they’re second loss, I’m sure the story would be different.

Well said. I have no problem with South Carolina remaining as the #1 team. And like you said, if this would have been the second loss for South Carolina, I would have been cool with them falling to #2 or #3.

Must be some sort of ‘etiquette’ function among coaches.
Louisville ain’t even close to SC
Tailgating them?
Right.......

If only 1 or 2 coaches voted Louisville #1, I may agree with you. But 14 +2 out of the 32? I don't think it is an etiquette function.

Based on what I've seen so far, Louisville's defense will keep them in games against anybody, including South Carolina. Louisville's challenge is going to be scoring 60 or 65 points. At the end of the day I think it will depend on three point shooting from Hailey Van Lith and Kianna Smith. And Engstler needs to avoid the early foul trouble that kept her on the bench for most of the first half against both UConn and Georgia Tech.
