Rocky,Imo if Warlick gets her team to jell and play as a team. They will be the team to beat in the SEC.

I think it will be a close call if Russell holds up; SC's potential Achilles is still its backcourt.

I'm probably more willing to believe that HS AA Bianca Cuevas improves significantly in year two than that Russell comes back from surgery and plays a full season at a high level.

Are the Lady Vols planning a tournament in Afghanistan? I remember doing those team building seminars at work. Always considered them a monumental waste of time and money.
Just getting ready for the season. Teams do different things to get ready. From the video it looked tough. The Marine said it's not about what we did. It's about applying it to Lady Vols basketball.

So Geno's nearly every year comment that the 6 games is about preparation, talent, and LUCK. Never underestimate the value of luck--Look at the ND win over USC---Cable was in the right place at the right time, had she been 3 feet in any direction away--she would not have gotten the rebound (LUCK) and made the final last second basket to win--that is LUCK.
I agree with Dawn Staley--they could have should have been in the Championship game--albeit, the results would remain the same. Uconn's team last year worked thru adversity, and a first big game loss, and dug their heels in for the rest of the seasons--practiced harder, listen more intently and trusted their talent and their coaches--and WON!!!!!
luck... you're joking right, she was in that place because she was on the court and part of the game and the trajectory of the missed shot allowed the ball to go in her direction.

luck is a phony sense of accomplishment

They are not saying that Notre Dame was lucky. They are saying they played poorly in the first half and have to learn to play more consistently. The strength of the South Carolina team last year was their depth. They relied a bit too much on the other team getting tired in the second half.

That does seem like a flawed strategy.

UConn should have been ranked no.1 all year even after losing to Stanford last year by 2 in California. That would of meant no No.1 ranking for SouthCarolina for the first time ever.

Like the rankings in December and January really mattered in the end? No big deal really.

Sorry not feeling well.I posted that to point out the Huskies did not dwell on that and SC should not make a statement like that because that shows no respect to ND.

SC didn't make a statement like that. That particular statement came from one player and was echoed by another. It wasn't a slight on ND.. Players have a right to feel how they want. Some players felt like they didn't give ND their best game (I agree, they didn't), and they feel that if they had they would've been in the finals (who really knows). I'm pretty sure after losing to UCONN in multiple finals Notre Dame would say that they feel like they have yet to give UCONN their best game.. that's not saying UCONN isn't a worthy adversary. It's saying that they should've played better.

It's interesting to me how from that entire video (which isn't attached to the article), that's the one statement that gets dragged out. The video isn't about last year at all. It's about Dawn and how she's going to motivate the team this year.

Actually no. After the NC game ND players were appropriately pissed off and gracious. There was never an echo
of "if we had played our best game" or anything remotely close to that.

"Defensively, we did some really good things. We held them to 63 points. We just shot the ball really poorly. Had we made just a couple more shots and a couple less turnovers, I think we’re just so close. It’s frustrating to get that close and know you could have really won the game" - Muffett McGraw

That's not even just remotely close to it, it's almost verbatim to my point. That's basically saying the exact same thing I'm arguing.

ND lost by 10 in the finals and McGraw is saying that they were so close and had they made a few more shots and less turnovers they know they could've won the game. SC lost by ONE point in the semifinals and the players aren't supposed to feel like they should've beaten ND and went to the finals against UCONN?

SC players were very gracious to ND for the win, but nobody should fault them if some of them felt like they could've played better and won the game. If you take Muffett's quote and attribute it to Dawn Staley she'd be right, Staley could've said the same thing.

That is typical COACH speak. THE ND PLAYERS did not say any of that. The SC player(s) did.

And? I don't really see the problem with either. You can be respectful of your opponent without having to lack confidence. McGraw felt like they should've beaten UCONN in the finals. Good for her. Imovbioh said the team felt like they should've beaten ND in the semifinals. Good for them. All of it is just talk if you're not doing anything to change the result next time. In both instances, use that as motivation and change the result when you get back. I don't expect them to say "well we were just outmatched on the court, ND is a much better program than us.. they have a much better coach and they're just the greatest team to be second in the country".

If avenging a semifinal lost motivates the team and propels them to another FF then I'm all for it. It's not like she said that right after the game. She said that to a local beat writer after our first practice in a video about Dawn speaking on how she's going to motivate the team this year. They were graceful in defeat, now show me some fire and get back there. I'm glad they're starting to feel like they belong on the big stage. Far too many times last season SC played like a mid major against the elite teams.

The player that made the comment is new to the team this year and she wasn't even on the team last year.So where did she hear it and why would she comment on it.She heard it from her new teammates.I don't think you would ever hear a UConn player make a comment like that and like Coco said that comment came from the coach not a player.A Husky player making that comment would have received a tongue lashing from Geno or CD.

That's good for UCONN. Good for Geno and CD. I'm not here to criticize Geno's style of coaching or managing his team, it obviously works for him. We don't know what Dawn may have said to Imovbioh after the statement was made, maybe she DID give her a tongue lashing.

All of this to say that not all coaches are the same. I'm sure there are things Geno allows his players to do that Dawn doesn't allow her players to do. Whatever works for that coach. Dawn allows her players to speak freely to the media on certain things, so what, . There are plenty of things Geno does that I don't like. But it doesn't matter because I'm not a Husky fan. I don't think I'd ever see a day where Dawn calls Gamecock fans dumb***** (or whatever) for whatever reasons. But hey, Geno criticizes his fans, because it works for him. I may not like it, but if UCONN fans are cool with it (and a lot of you were), then so am I. I'm not saying Geno was wrong for saying that, but that's what works for him and his style. Our players speak candidly and freely to the media, other teams may not operate like that but hey it doesn't matter. No coaching or team management style is perfect.. you use what works for you.

Surely we cant rebuke Geno. If he says it then it's scripture.

Geno criticizes his fans because he was honest about some of the fans that follow his team.Watch the press conference after the loss to UConn last year and you see a pattern with the SC players. There are a lot of other teams who wouldn't allow that either.I have been a Dawn Staley fan since she played at Virginia but IMO they don't respect the other teams they play.

Okay I had go back and re-watch the post game press conference and maybe I'm missing something here. Could you please point out which statement made by Aleighsa or Tiffany that gave you the impression that they dont respect other teams.

Exactly as I thought, no response from you. This only leaves me to believe that Geno's not to far off on his assessment of some of the Husky fans.

Well just like Geno was being honest. So was Sarah. Honesty works both ways, not just when it goes in your favor or want to hear it. She wasn't on the team last year.. but if the team feels like they should've won versus Notre Dame then good for them. Allow them their confidence. Hopefully they avenge that lost next time. I'm not sure why this is such a big deal to you anyway. You seem to make a big deal out of every little thing SC does though.

And I watched the post game presser after the UCONN game. I saw a SC team that knows they got thoroughly whooped by UCONN. Sure, they were upset because they got handled on the national stage but they were very complimentary of UCONN. Just because they're not groveling doesn't mean they don't respect the opponent. I probably wouldn't be pumping sunshine and singing praises if I almost got beat by 30 on national television either..
