OT: Songs That Indicate, Hint, or Imply Direction or Distance...of Some Type

Barrelin’ down the boulevard looking for the heart of Saturday night.

The double bass line by Jim Hughart is among my favorite accompaniments ever.

Here’s a gorgeous song from Caroline Lavelle, about emotional distance. That’s Thomas Dolby on the keys.

The Boz man:

You came along I forgot about the past
Loves gonna grow I know it's gonna last
All the time, all the time...

Just been listening this in the shop, to which I recently returned after getting a new knee; still only an hour a day. These guys are technically metal, but really almost opera.

A Doors masterpiece - Ships With Sails:

I'll be returning some day, yeah
Until then, please don't ask me my direction
And my tracks be buried in the sea....

Tough to post YT here at work (blocked) but:

Love - "Alone Again (or)" is a fantastic take on relationship distance in the wake of the late 60s Summer of Love... 2 of the bandmates were more down for traditional relationships and this offers one of the most powerful, yet misunderstood lines in all of music (IMHO as a former music industry vet):

[Yeah, I heard a funny thing / someone said to me] "You know that I could be in love with almost everyone / I think that people are the greatest fun"

The Animals with what was then a fairly recent blues song, originally called Gonna Send you back to Georgia.

Not sure which direction she's going, but we know where she came "from". I guess that's a direction, sorta.

I know this is Bonnie's song, but I really like Susan's version. And then throw in some "jazz flute" and Derek on Sugaree is just a bonus.

Angel From Montgomery - Tederucks Band

Vashti Bunyan - Train Song:

"It's many hundred miles, and it won't be long"

Steely Dan - Home at Last:

Well the danger on the rocks is surely past
Still I remain tied to the mast
Could it be that I have found my home at last
Home at last....

A lovely ditty from Carly's Martha's Vineyard show in the 80's. The song is literally about getting back to the Vineyard after a storm (or some other maritime issue).
