OT: Songs That Indicate, Hint, or Imply Direction or Distance...of Some Type

Darius Rucker does a good version as well.

Saw these guys in Simsbury, CT a few years ago. They opened for Willie Nelson.

"Walking to the south out of Roanoke
I caught a trucker out of Philly had a nice long toke
But he's a-headed west from the Cumberland Gap
To Johnson City Tennessee.........."

Lordy, is she playing an erhu??? (Definitely something closely related.) Quite possibly the last instrument I’d expect to see in a Joe Bonamassa show.

(I had a buddy from Taiwan in graduate school who played one of those “not exactly an erhu” instruments. He’d let me play it while I let him play one of my mountain dulcimers.)

A favorite from 1969, lyrics loosely based on poems of Antonio Machado…

Walker, your footprints are the path
Caminante, son tus huellas el camino

and nothing more
Y nada más

Walker, there is no path
Caminante, no hay camino

The path is made by walking
Se hace camino al andar

When you walk you make a path, and when you look back
Al andar se hace camino, y al volver la vista atrás

You see the path that will never be trodden again
Se ve la senda que nunca se ha de volver a pisar

Walker, there is no path
Caminante, no hay camino

But wakes in the sea
Sino estelas en la mar

Here’s another from Bruce Cockburn, from his maybe second album, on some minor label, but which I was able to find in a record store/head shop in my early teens. A kid from “the big city” (Hartford suburb) introduced me to him.
