OT: Songs That Indicate, Hint, or Imply Direction or Distance...of Some Type

Here's Eliza Carthy doing a pretty widely performed traditional song (Joan Baez, for example). She's playing what she calls a "5-string monster fiddle", which I assume is a violin with an extra viola string (or vice-versa, given that it is a "monster").

This song is about John Kay's escape from East Germany as a child. Second verse (from memory):

It's a mighty long way out of the darkness
To where the sun is free to shine
The truck came by and put us in the back
And left us to where the railroad tracks cross the line
The border guide took us by the hand
And led through the hole into the Promised Land beyond

Seems more directionless. ;)
Not really, he says he's on his way to New Orleans this morning, leaving out of Nashville, Tennessee.......and the Delta women think the world of him!

I'm not one to put songs on repeat, but I make an exception for this one. (I vacillate between this and Dust to Dust by the Warning being the best song of the last 25 years.) The album is about the last man alive, who uses something akin to the holodeck to travel through time and space. He's just gotten to the Dawn of Man.
