My opinion only, but I think Tom Cochrane (Canadian, w/Red Rider) is a gifted songwriter.

This is probably the most beautiful song on this subject matter that’s ever been written.

For what it’s worth, Romanza is an excellent album. There isn’t a bad song on it.

I certainly do agree, and then there's this one that is OT but also quite beautiful. The English lyrics are included,

I know someone else made this song famous, but can't call up who. I just love Ry Cooder's version though.

This lovely one from Kate Price is about a woman who found an injured eagle, kept him for some time and realized she needs to let him go. I love the combination of hammered dulcimer, accordion, and cello in addition to her mellifluous voice.

 
This traditional Irish song is literally saying goodbye to a tree. The tree is representative of the destruction of Ireland's forests.
