Somewhat Surprised Stewie wins Wade Trophy

I don't necessarily disagree, but I don't completely agree either...

I think it's common knowledge that Stewie is the best college player in America. But the end of year awards aren't for the "best" player. They are "Player of the Year" awards - and usually go to those who not only are among the best players, but who also put up the best numbers. That's why I think sometimes it's harder for UCONN players to win stuff like that because when you have Dee, Sue, Swin and Tamika, or Maya, Tina and Renee, or Stewie, Moriah, Morgan and KML, it's not just one player who's putting up all the great stats.

In the next few years UCONN will be entering the Williams, Nurse, Samuelson, Collier and Dangerfield era. Again a bunch of great players on a team but individually no one may dominate the scoring. Having said that, any UCONN player who does win an award totally deserves it.

I think 99.9% of fans and 100% of the players would trade any individual awards for continued NC's...

Any idea when the actual vote was taken? ESPN was touting Jewel before the playoffs. However she hasn't had great playoff games while Stewie has been spectacular. That might have had a positive impact on Stewie getting the award.

She won't say squat of an adverse nature until and unless she gets by SC.

And if ND and UConn do get to the final, I'm betting she stays proper and under control with the media. The trash talk etc. last year didn't work out so well for her on any front.
Agree. It bothers me a bit that this is portrayed as Geno and Muffet sniping at each as I recall it was largely Muffet griping and Geno was fairly reasonable.

Yes. Except for "It isn't nice to fib during Lent."

Well, come to think of it, that was reasonable.

Is the Wade Trophy considered more or less prestigious than the AP POY? Doesn't matter. I'm happier that Stewie won the Wade because when the AP named A'ja Wilson an All America and snubbed the more-deserving Morgan Tuck, the AP lost whatever credibility and integrity it had.

Extra, Extra, read all about it !! AP names Stewie POY!! AP regains credibility.

Personally, I consider the Wade the top award.

As for being 'sick and tired' - UConn players win plenty of accolades and awards. It's the Championships that prove their excellence. Just ask Ms. Beard.
I dunno. With Beard over Taurasi, Wiggins over Parker, and the fact that neither Catchings nor Holdsclaw won an award, I've always kind of had a hard time taking the Wade seriously.

Don't they know what class is at ND? After the announced the All American team and right before they announced the player of the year, the whole ND got up and left....that was the point I knew that Stewie got it even before it was announced :)

I am very happy for Stewart but I also would understand anyone who voted for Jewel this year or Sims or Chiney last year, etc. They were all worthy choices, and while I am biased to Uconn, I can recognize really talented players having exceptional years elsewhere as well. (What I found so interesting last year was Muffet seemed to think McBride was being snubbed and was blaming Uconn for that, while McBride (a great player) wasn't even in the conversation for a POY award.)
