Joe Williams 6ft 200 lb 4.4 running back, please step up. Please.

Agree... I really wish I knew what this means/or what Coach was intimating.

"Speedy Joe Williams (5-11, 202) is a player the coaches have wanted to get on the field for a while. He had three carries for six yards last season. He's adjusting much better this year, Pasqualoni said, and could be a factor. The sophomore from Allentown, Pa., has size, speed, power and vision."

Yeah we hear all the time about how fast they are, but what we don't see (yet some people pretend to know) is how quickly they are picking up the playbook and how much time they spend watching film, walkthroughs, etc....

My guess is based off that quote is that HCPP felt that no one was ready to step up last year so he put out that whole Jaguar thing about one running back blah blah, now that it seems the RBs are a little more comfortable with the offense maybe its time to mix it up

I would love to see what DeLorenzo could do behind a competent line.

Our playcalling was so telegraphed last year I thought Samuel Morse was our OC. Now with a better O-line, more confident QB, and play calling that keeps the other guys off balance, McCombs can have an All-AAC Year.

If we run for 1,000 yards this season like we did last season we will have a 2 or 3 win season and the Rent will be empty by November / December. P will probably make it through the season, but even that won't be guaranteed. We need something other than than just one back who cannot break tackles. He needs to be complemented with some power. Re-establishing an effective running game is the most important element to a successful season imho. Without it, we are gonig to put a much less experienced defense on the field way too much.

Where's the wishbone.

McCummings at option QB
LM and JW at tailbacks
MD at FB

Let's go old school running game. Offense the last couple of years sucked. The option pitch is exciting. If we are going to win 4 or 5 games, let's do it with a throwback offense.

Enjoy the weekend!

The option pitch to LM gives him a chance to accelerate before contact. He'll be much more effective.

With the loss of Vincy, Max D should get some reps at fullback. FB is probably his only shot to get to the next level.

Never. Claxx has got that locked up. It's the reason Rueben Frank got moved.

I think that Claxx will be a huge addition to the backfield. My assumption is that he can catch. In the spring game they ran a play where Claxx was 20 yards down field and they threw to him. Why would you waste a play throwing 20 yards down field to your FB unless it's in your repertoire

I think he and Deshon Foxx will be the two surprises on offense.

I think that's right. I have to assume that Frank's move was driven be Clax being that much better and I wonder if we don't see Clax in some single back sets. I haven't seen the kid play yet, but I am hopeful he may be one of the options to spell and balance McCombs. I also think we need a breakaway threat as well and am hopeful that either Williams or Mariner might be that type of back.

that's what I think too. I think the losses we had in the backfield in 2011 with one guy transferring and one going out with a career ending injury really forced the issue at running back. It was McCombs or nobody. Among the guys we brought in, none were really ready, and none really had command of the playbook, nor the other elements of the position last year. McCombs was a fearless blocker, for example. In the one game he played, DeLorenzo had good yardage running the ball but i saw more than one lookout block. I really do hope we've re-built the stable of running backs going forward.

Frey was a huge loss and he may very well have been worth a game or two that season.

Agree on McCombs. His pass blocking improved immensely and at his size that is no small feat.

Right, people forget that we lost two top running backs that year. Frey transferred and Shoemate got hurt so there really wasn't much to use except McCombs. Last year the recruits, DeLorenzo and Williams weren't quite ready for prime time.

First look @ Frosh Josh Marriner?

http://instagram.com/p/cjcCDLABrx/#

He looks like he is chiseled from granite. They have to let him play if he earns it in practice. Supposedly he has 4.5 speed and from his videos he seems to have plenty of wiggle.

Marriner is 5' 8'' 192, for comparison Ray Rice of the Ravens is listed at 5'8'' 212, Todman is listed as 5'10'' 198 on the Jaguars site, Caulley was listed at 5'7'' 185.

Marriner runs a 10.79 100m. He's got crazy speed. He also was a phenomenal hurdler and long jumper.

We've heard that he has explosive speed, something like a 4.5 40.

I also remember this story after he committed:

You gained that many yards despite an illness. What was wrong?

"At the beginning of the game I didn't think I was going to finish because I had a stomach virus throughout the whole first half. But then I threw up at halftime and started feeling better. That's when I knew I could finish the game and do what I needed to do."
