So you don't have dig them out of the news conference. Bold is my. There is a lot in here.

I've been touting his EQ for a while now. I think he lost a little bit of the plot after his massive, continuous and influential success. Compeletly understandable, it would be unrealistic to expect none of that. But he's great, he'll recognize and adjust. Sounds like the process is underway.

50 year? Damn, can’t compete with that experience I guess but as an almost 50 year-old, I pull a muscle tying my shoes in the morning so we should be able to outrun those teams.

I think I heard or read somewhere that Izzo reached out to him after Maui. If so, that would be a great sounding board to reflect over. He mentioned Geno too as someone that has given him recent guidance. The beauty of being at UConn is the endless sources of Top level people that have called it home over the years, and I wouldn't be surprised if Calhoun reached out too. My biggest take away is there is a type of cancel culture media hype that is ever present to tear down anyone that succeeds in not just basketball, but virtually anything in this country. Danny is navigating it well in my opinion to this point. I Love that he's our coach.

I don't think that's new. I can think of at least two JCs who didn't coach UConn who got canceled.

Cade McNamara might be breaking new ground in football, but 50 will be pushing it. Maybe he can head to UConn and the 7th time will prove the charm.

but also....hurley has realized nothing but more success year over year with uconn:

and now, we're taking a step back. It's bound to happen...the line doesn't go up and right forever, and I think It took Maui for Dan Hurley to realize that he has to adapt too as his teams change. Learning moment for him that he can't just work harder and then end up frustrated to will his teams to the level they were the past two years....sometimes you gotta meat the players where they are...and the Baylor game showed him doing that.

This is an odd statement by Hurley given how much he touted these guys earlier. He came into this season knowing he only had 1 returning starter and a bunch of developing sophomores and freshmen. He could have saved himself and the alumni/fan base a lot of angst if he pumped the brakes on a 3 peat before the season started.

Not his style. He said before the season he would not run away from talking about the historic nature of what this team would like to get done - a threepeat.

You think he makes the team‘s ceiling higher by setting lower expectations? That would be a strange conclusion. Or you mean it’s less important that he manage his players and more important that he manages your expectations?

No matter what came out of his mouth, at no point in the offseason did I think this was a team that would be winning a national championship. I saw a team that could compete for the Big East conference title, and then we’d have to see what the postseason brought.

One of my favorite qualities about Hurley is that he is willing to look inward and outward. He doesn't double down on what's not working out of stubborness. It might take a minute sometimes but he always gets there eventually. He is willing to ask for advice and he doesn't think he has all the answers. He is always searching for ways to improve. Even small things like reading books from other great coaches and leaders. He also surrounds himself with people and mentors that will be honest and not blow smoke.

I wish I could like this more than once. Anyone fixating on a three-peat and living and dying with how every game affects that goal is going to have a miserable year (which some of you seem to be into).

This is not last year's team. The goal is to get better all season long. Given the new pieces growing into new roles and the track record of this coaching staff it would seem to be a reasonable expectation that this will happen. At the end of the year there are going to be a handful of teams that will probably feel like they underperformed if they don't make the Final Four. I think we already have a general idea of who those teams are and this UConn team is probably not in that group.

But they're in another group that's going to become as good a team as possible and see where they stack up at the end of the season. And there are plenty of teams from this second group that end up doing great things. For God's sake, NC State was a 10th seed in the ACC tournament. They lost their last 4 regular season games, went 17-14 and needed a buzzer beater not to get bounced in their own conference tournament and they ended up in the Final Four. It's the journey that's supposed to be the fun part.

No. He has to not say anything positive about the team preseason, but he also has to not say anything negative, but also has to be certain of everything preseason, and he has to read the minds of each fan so as to temper expectations whilst still providing adequate confidence. That’s the only logical solution.

One thing Hurley has over Calhoun is he doesn't coach through fear. I had a friend with tickets behind the bench in the 90s and I went to pretty much every game. Calhoun wasn't in the same league as Bobby Knight as far as being an ass, but he was close. To his credit, Calhoun did lighten up once the tournament started.

it was a different era. can't coach like that anymore. hurley comes close, and you see how he gets lit up.

Hurley will figure it out, this team will figure it out and find its OWN IDENTITY and not try to be either of the back to back title teams. I have no doubt and have had no doubt. Sure there will be more bumps in the road but im simply not worried about this team nevermind having any concerns about the coach. After two consecutive national titles this season is absolute gravy and im enjoying every single second of it.
