Shirreffs is locking in too much on his first target, this needs to be fixed. Noel Thomas is a baller, so is Newsome and Beals. Rome wasn't built in a day.
Agree on this. Many times it felt like BS forced passes to receivers who were covered while others were running free. He needs to get better at looking through his progressions.

He's still better then what we've had in a long time but there were opportunities missed today

Was a frustrating game to watch. The defense had no answers for Navy's triple option, and we couldn't capitalize on any opportunities we had to keep it close, so you can't blame the crowd for being demoralized. The TD right before the half was killer.

But hey, growing pains. We should temper expectations a little and remember we're still a work in progress. A rough day for the D, but overall we're still better than last year and improving. Baby steps.

There isn't a game on the schedule that feels like we have not shot to win. Couldn't say that last year.

I'm referring to the botched fumble call.

Ok not totally sure what you are talking about sometimes it's harder at the gane because you don't see replays as well.

The league has an officiating problem for sure.

My brother graduated from USNA in mid eighties. I've watched a ton on navy games since then. This is the best navy team I've ever seen. That being said my issues from today
1. Kicking FG on first possession and not kicking it on the second. Coaching malpractice
2. Play call on third down of second possession. Option? Really. Now we're Navy?
3. Lucas. Missed a key block in the first quarter. Dropped pass and bad penalty
4. The Refs. I am normally not a ref basher but the premature call on the fumble and the lack of chop blocking calls were confounding. Finally called one late in the fourth when the game was over.

Still. Heartened by the progress. Can't wait for Diaco to lift the "we're not allowed to score more than 20" rule.

Onto BYU

Things I liked;

Team didn't pack it in after first half when they didn't stop Navy once.

Flea flicker call. Should have been caught.

Very good special teams play in all facets.

Arkeel finishing runs.

Things I didn't like:

Not changing schemes on defense. We're content being steam rolled.

Shirreffs passes to the right were way off all day. Up, down, left, right.

Dropped passes by WR/TE again on a sweet throw.

Diaco's paralysis by analysis on 4th and short. Again.

I'm not sure I get the problem with the fourth down decisions.

The first one - they didn't know yet they couldn't stop them.

The second one - they made a reasonable call.

The bad decision was 3rd and 2, not 4th and 6.

People are starting to get interested in UConn football again. After the game I went to Stew Leonards and two different people noticing my UConn gear started asking me questions about game. They were disappointed we lost but were happy to hear that the team is much improved. Just good to know that the fringe fans are coming back.

No need for me to post after this. Whaler nailed it. I even had the conversation about how badly we'd have been beaten if this game happened a year or two ago on the way out of the stadium.

Hang in there boys. We're slowly getting there.

What happens to Max? Did he even get into the game?...

He blew a critical assignment and ran the wrong route on that 4th near the goal line. BS looked like he badly missed, but it was Max.

I hated everything about that game. The goofy 3rd down play calling. The abominable 4th down decision in the second quarter. The total lack of preparation in defense (sorry it showed). The incessant rambling of the PA announcer, the drunken fool who operates the scoreboard, I hated all of it.

Why you ask, aren't we better than last year you ask? Yes, we are better, big whoop. I take little solace in no longer being the worst team in FBS football. It's not difficult to not be the worst.

I hated this entire game, even more than any game last year, because they didn't deserve it. There is talent on this team, quite a bit actually. Maybe more than we've ever had. I hated it because the coach cost them 11 points because he can't read a game. That option call on 3rd and 1 was a fireable offense. The call to go for it on 4th and 6 from the 14 yard line would get you committed in any state in America.

There are several things that gave been working and every time a critical play occurs, he pulls some wacky bs from his crazy Bob bag of tricks. WTF. I MEAN WTF.

As for the defense, they made some decent if not game changing adjustments at half time. Why did it have to take until halftime? It's not like there isn't a decade's worth of film on every play Navy runs.

Those two things alone cost what on the field was a very winnable game. I haven't seen the offense move with that much ease in years but when the shadow of the goal post gets close they take a giant dump on the field.

Talk rebuilding, talk process all you want but for me that was the worst experience I've ever had at a home game. I left the stadium thoroughly pissed off and I'm still mad about it.

The odd decision on going 4th and 6 was the call on 3rd and 2. Running an option against an option team opening yourself up to a loss is bizarre.

This staff needs to touch a stove to learn it's hot. They generally don't
keep making the same mistake.

That play had me scratching my head. Give the ball to Newsome on a regular run and they likely get the first down. Suddenly going to an option play when they're clearly not an option team made no sense. That ultimately led to leaving points on the field when that fourth down play failed following the loss on the option. UConn can't afford killed momentum and squandered opportunities on offense.

It all comes down to where you think they were after the Buffalo game in 2013. My opinion is you haven't grasped just how bad things were that day.

If that was the worst experience you've had at a home game... LOL was it your first game?

Another thought... I don't think we gave up too many big runs, although 5.0 YPC is obviously a good stat for Navy. It would have been even higher with more explosive, big yardage runs given up, which is what it would be if we played with last year's team. We just needed to shut the door on third down and we couldn't do that.

Yeah, it was my first game. Buffalo, we (at least some of us) knew PP was already done. It was actually somewhat cathardic. SMU was a meaningless game in a thrown away season.

We are better than what we are seeing on the field. Bob is 4-12, and continues to do things no head coach can do an keep his job. It's peewee football level garbage. Be a man, Bob. Line up and play, leave the boneheaded schoolyard nonsense at home.

Everything about the event today was bush, completely disinterested in excellence bush league in every respect.

I just arrived in NOLA and people in the airport and in the hotel elevator mentioned they noticed Uconn is making strides. I am ticked we lost, but my hotel is on the corner of Bourbone and Canal so....i will find a way to cope.

This team's year is nexy year. They need to be competitive this year and win at least 5 games. Next season anything short of 8 will be a bust.

Jesus Bob you've had 16 games to take a embarrassment of a program to where you can beat a senior laden Navy team. Commit seppaku. Sure you were one play from beating a top 25 team on the road 7 days ago - but too slow.

You missed one glaring game. This wasn't even the worst Navy home game at the Rent. People are forgetting Paul Johnson raping Edsall.

I meant to highlight it wasn't even the worst Navy game.

This is a great post.
Yes we have been underdogs the past two weeks, but those games were there for the taking. Yes we have been terrible the past few years. But if this coaching staff does not improve its X's and O's at some point, we will need 4 and 5 star players to overcome it. Otherwise it will be tease after tease, with the occasional wins against lesser teams.
The players have improved their game day performance from last year, why hasn't the coaching staff?

It wasn't the worst loss or the worst performance it's the worst outcome compared to what should have happened based on the performance of the players.

The stadium production also annoyed the cap out of me. I've been to many losses, some heartbreaking, some ego brusing, but I've never been to such a WTF game and I've been to all of them.

You may not agree, you may not get what I'm saying, but I'm telling you the whole day put me very off.

Thank you, someone gets it. Now if we can only get the scoreboard op to know what down it is and what button to push.

You must have missed the stadium production against Nova earlier this year or against BYU/Stony Brook last year.

You are completely off your rocker on this one. If you've been to every game there are 20 worse losses.
