I'm not sure what many of you are watching, but some of you need a reality check. This year's team was severely overrated to begin the season and some of you are still overrating them. Open your eyes! This team has shown next to nothing this year and short of them having some players with FUTURE potential, they really are not a very good basketball team.

I almost have to laugh as I keep reading on this board how UConn is playing their best basketball now. Ummmmm based on what? Losing to Providence? Barely squeaking by a terrible Pitt team at home? Pulling out a miracle against a very weak West Virginia team? Losing yet again to Syracuse...which, oh by the way, as so many other threads have pointed out, is playing horribly right now. I just don't see anything different now from what we've seen all year. We are a very average team.

Like all UConn fans, I'll hope for tourney wins... but no way am I setting any expectations for this team. They're simply not any good. People on the board are bashing L'ville & Cinn etc for the BE tourney offensive woes... Look in the mirror folks. UConn is worse! Those teams both likely beat UConn 7/10 right now. And they are mediocre. For you others who are looking forward to matching up vs Duke, UNC, Syracuse, Kentucky, Mizz, Mich St, Kansas, & other top teams... you're in denial.

There's hope because of course all those teams are beatable by us. But only in the sense that anything can happen on a given night. And we can hope we pull a VCU or George Mason 'out of nowhere' type run this year. That's the beauty of the tourney. But this year, that's what it'd be...a miracle type run. Despite what some of you are saying, UConn has shown nothing that gives any indication that they've turned a corner or that they have any better chance this year than other of the non top 25 teams. Realistically, it's far more likely we'll have been bounced even before being matched up vs the better teams than it is that we beat one/some.

Enjoy the tourney and hope like heck but please stop all these threads inferring we are any kind of realistic contender this year and how no one wants to play us. None of those decent teams are any more scared of UConn than they are of another 9-10 seed. We are what we've shown.

Thanks for your love of UCONN basketball now take your negativity and join the Syracuse board where you belong. Nobody is saying this team is going to win it all but with the right matchup we could easily get to the sweet 16. We are playing better overall ball and SN has stepped up as the leader.

Actually as a Cuse fan...I see no problem with you guys thinking you can make the S16/E8/F4...it is the right of every fan board to do it...at least you guys have history on your side. UConn is a flawed team (just like 99.0% of the other teams) but flawed teams make the E8/F4 all the time. It is all about match-ups and a dose of luck.

I agree with you that flawed teams can make a deep run, but they can only do that when the matchups hide their flaws. Our flaws have been qualities like toughness, aggressiveness, intelligence, and late-game execution. Those deficiencies can't be masked by a favorable matchup, which is probably why we haven't beaten a top team this year, despite the variety in styles of play.

The team ratcheted up the D last year in the post season, and they became lethal.

Exactly - right on. This is why we cheer for our team ( aka - homer ). If anyone thinks we can not make some noise in the tourny is not paying attention and not watching other teams. Not saying we will but us homers can only hope.

This team was rated based on having the full team together the entire season, with Calhoun for all but 3 games. Still probably a bit overrated but not nearly as badly overrated as you make it out to be. If you don't think not having Boatright the first 6 games didn't hurt then and in the long run, you are just wrong.

Let's look at UConn's losses:
  1. UCF by 5 (no Boatright), second game in two days with no backup guard
  2. SHU by 12 (no Calhoun),
  3. Rutgers by 7,
  4. Cincy by 3, no Boatright
  5. Tennessee by 3, no Boatright
  6. ND by 2,
  7. Georgetown by 14
  8. UL by 21
  9. Cuse by 18, No Calhoun
  10. MU by 15, No Calhoun
  11. Cuse by 2, No Calhoun
  12. PC by 2, No Calhoun
  13. Cuse by 3.
So UConn has lost 7 games by less than 5 points. Of those 7 games by less than 5 points, 3 were without Boatright and 2 were without Calhoun. Is Boatright worth 5 points against UCF? 3 against Cincy? 3 against UT? Is Calhoun worth 2 points against PC? 2 against Cuse? Maybe, maybe not.

UConn may not be a great team, but there have been so many distractions this season (which hopefully are done) that right now it's this team is literally not the same as the team that lost the majority of those games (8 of 13). So in point of fact, this UConn team is not who they were. That is probably the main reason that people here are "homers".

There are other factors as well. It has been noted that UConn does not play well against physical teams, the BE has more physical basketball than almost any other conference in the country. I think there are a few teams like FSU that are similar, but there will be less chance of UConn running into a team as physical as a BE team in the NCAAT.

And I thought Jimmy Dykes was the biggest moron....we have a new contender.

Ofcourse the regular season was a bit of a mess...a few "distractions" may have played a part....but let's not get into that now.
The tourney will be a challenge for us from the 1st game on, but seeing the glass as half full is what fans generally do.

By the way, once you get past the 1st round ANYBODY CAN BEAT ANYBODY and they usually do...Does KY or UNC or Cuse really look unstoppable. UConn can lose it's first game or beat NC in 2nd game...who knows what will happen, that's why you play the games....we are in, little else really matters anymore.

Keep in mind that early season games had Drummond with a broken nose/face mask and (considering the toughness he has shown as recently as less than two years ago) our head coach enduring back pain to the point where it became impossible for him to continue.

I personally believe that if it were possible to have a do-over and replay this season without the above mentioned issues we would be viewed at worst close to the stature we had when the season began. We don't get a mulligan but we may well make some noise the next (hopefully few) week(s).
