Morgan is going to be a premier player with Uconn. What she showed me was her confidence moving and taking her shot, like she knew it was going in. Never had any doubts. Can't wait to see her play. It will be spectacular and fun to watch. GO MORGAN!! GO HUSKIES!!!Gotta love her shooting form, high release point, shoulders square, the same every time, even on step backs and jump-stops.
I consider defensive ability to be a talent and think that she's probably the most talented, non-post defender in her class.MC may not be the fastest or even the most talented kid in her recruiting class..........she's just a pure baller!! Her feel for the game is off the charts!! Can't wait to see her in a UConn uniform!!
Knee injuries bring down your visibility especially your sophomore year of HS. With that said I agree that she will be the best 15 to play in quite some time.I'm not sure about her ranking - she sure looks like she's better than a top 15 recruit - not that rankings ultimately matter... but i've felt from the beginning this kid is one of the very best in her class. I know she was injured for a bit so that's maybe why her rankings seem "lower"...
I would add that when she catches the ball her hands never come down before the shot goes up. When you are shooting against shorter players that is a huge plus. I have watched a lot of film on the HS group and she is as advanced in her game as I have seen in that class. She is one of those players that the sky will be the limit after the coaches at UCONN fine tune her skillset.Gotta love her shooting form, high release point, shoulders square, the same every time, even on step backs and jump-stops.
Her injury was a badly sprained foot that did not require any surgery.Knee injuries bring down your visibility especially your sophomore year of HS. With that said I agree that she will be the best 15 to play in quite some time.
Yeah. I think the comparison is outside recent UConn players since I think she has more speed and driving ability than KLS or CD. I hate to say this since even typing ND hurts me but she reminds me more of their typical big guards like Citron. It’s an interesting thought experiment. At Morgan’s size it’s hard to find a perfect analogy. I saw some similarities to Caroline but the differences are significant too. That size, 6’2”, is distinctive for a big guard/wing, and Caroline has the sort of offensive skills and confidence that sets her apart. She isn’t afraid to drive the lane from the elbow or along the baseline because she has an array of clever finishing moves: step throughs, step backs, up-and-unders, and so on. This is what I see in Morgan.
Caroline is very clever and intuitive which means she doesn’t need to blow by a defender to get to the rim. She can get them on her hip and just muscle past. And she’s very crafty on defense. Morgan has some of these qualities, plus a little better quickness. We don’t know yet about her bb IQ or her perimeter shooting, but I’m hopeful.
Two players I’d compare both of them to are Haley Jones and Jordan Horston. Neither is a perfect analogy. Jordan has a similar confidence on offense but may not be quite the passer Caroline is. Haley is not quite as tall and not a great perimeter shooter, but is a bit stronger and similarly unafraid to take her offensive skills into the lane and mix it up with taller players. If Caroline hadn’t been derailed by injury, I suspect we’d all be talking about her in the same breath as Haley and Jordan.
I wonder if this is how we’ll eventually think of Morgan. She’s quicker than any of them, but may not be as strong as Haley. She seems to have the best handles of the bunch, good passing skills and vision, and a ton of confidence. Will it all translate to the speed of the D1 game? Only time will tell.
Two more imperfect comparisons: Rickea Jackson and Ashley Joens. Both excellent creators on offense. Rickea has the best quickness though may be the weakest on defense. Joens is smaller and is on the slow side, but is very resourceful on both ends of the court.
As I said above, this is the group we’d have been comparing Caroline to all along, if not for her injuries. She is capable of carrying a team, and healthy that also puts her (and maybe Morgan too) in the class of Katie Lou and Phee. Each of them could carry the team separately, which is why together they made UConn formidable.
You and I are in the same boat. But I also don’t have the other social media connections, and this, the Boneyard, is the only platform where I engage with others through the iPad.I can't get this as I don't have INSTAGRAM ! BUMMER!
