Watching the last couple of games I seem to see more assists spread out over our guards as well as a better distribution of rebounds. Rebounds by our Griff Alliyah Mir and even Evina. The Energy is really high and I expect that to be a big plus tonite. Last season we seemed to play to stay in it and we were tentative. The one thing that stands out to me is our guards play with poise and patience while executing plays . Tonite that will be very important. We have a player in Paige that can take over a game. She can get her shot almost whenever she wants and shes shooting at a very high percentage. She makes plays and can settle the team down along with Evina. Nika is a fireball. Gritty tuff and full of energy. I still believe the guards will be the deciding factor tonite This is gonna be a fun game to watch with most of us sitting on the edge of our seats screaming at the tv.

Everyone is talking about the ONO-Boston matchup, Uconn shooting, holding the SC guards away from the rim. Those are important points, and will be concerns. But in the last few games, well, mostly all of them, Uconn has started very slow, much of it attributed to turnovers. That is going to be the big question, especially in the first quarter. Can the Uconn guards, both freshmen, stand up to the pressure tested guards of SC. Its going to be critical that EW and CW are aware of this and are involved with the ball handling duties if this becomes a problem. They just can't turn their backs and run up the floor. If SC presses they have to be there to help out. We need to take care of the ball and get over the line so they can work their magic. If we can limit the guard turnovers, we will win this game.

Good point about full court ball pressure. We continue to have some unforced turnovers and need to have Liv post about half court to help break any presses that develop. We do have excellent ball handlers but should look to fast break with our great scoring guards. Don't get trapped along the side lines and half court as some of our men's guards tend to do.

UConn does not want this game to be played at a breakneck pace, something SC desires and thrives on. Geno will attempt to make this a half court game. The only team to date that successfully slowed the game down vs SC was NCSU, and they won. It was an ugly, slow game, and it worked. you have to be able to match SC on the boards to do this.

Do not foul! (Yes, that includes you too Nika.) I like our chances tonight.

Last minute thoughts.... Hmmm.... Very fitting Paige is our poster gal for this one. Home game, our cardboard crowd will cheer them on to victory!

There are so many factors that could determine the outcome, turnovers, rebounding, shooting percentage. Over the past few years, we have struggled in games where we get 'punched' by an aggressive team and never bounce back. Everyone has a plan until they get hit. I think the first 5 minutes will determine the game. If we stand toe-to-toe with them, we have a good chance, if they get a big lead and take the momentum, it could be a long night.

It's always possibly the could press us-- but extremely extremely extremely doubtful. Though I admit I don't know SC that well. But your post here makes it sound like SC is like the 15-16 Huskies. It can work I guess- but pressing also opens the defense up to giving up easy shots. SC can also get blown out if they try things. It's arguable but UCONN might have three guards better than SC's best guard. And their two quick guards are short.

UCONN can definitely lose (and ofc can definitely win) but I think some of you have put SC on this plane as if they are near invincible.

And if any team including SC were ever to try to fullcourt UCONN- I wouldn't want Paige to bring the ball up- I'd stick her in the middle to catch that pass. If she gets the ball in the middle- and once she turns if there isn't someone right on top of her in a press- the other team is going to get hurt. Real bad. Real bad.

CWill has gone farther in NCAA Tourney than any of their guards I think? SO it's possible their guards aren't as good either. - So- "pressure tested?"
