1) UConn couldn't rush the ball this year, but neither could most teams against UConn's opponents. (You could also argue about poor rushing offenses as well.)

Look at these national rankings (out of 123 FBS schools): 2. Louisville, 4. Rutgers, 5. Cincinnati, 12. Memphis, 13. UCF, 28. Michigan, 29. USF, 30. SMU, 44. Maryland, 58. Buffalo, 76. Temple. Towson was #9 in FCS.

2) UConn's QBs were sacked 42 times this year.

Casey Cochran was sacked 4 times (175 attempts), Whitmer was sacked 20 times (129 attempts), Boyle was sacked 18 times (133 attempts).

3) There were 7 teams in FBS with a sacks allowed minus sacks ratio of worse than -20 (allowed 20 more sacks than they had on defense) with UConn at third worst at -26. (Miami (Ohio) -36, Idaho -29, UConn -26, Purdue -24, Iowa St. -23, Pitt -23, Southern Miss. -23) The combined record of the seven teams: 15-69.

4) Turnovers determined UConn's wins and losses and by how much (pretty intuitive, but ..).

5 Turnovers, lost by 21.
4 turnovers, lost by 45 and 29.
3 turnovers, lost by 25.
2 turnovers, lost by 17, 15, and 11.
1 turnover, lost by 3 and 3, won by 7.
0 turnovers, won by 35 and 11.

5) Special teams were bad this year.

Kickoff returns ranked #105. Kickoff return defense ranked #112.
Punt returns ranked #120. Punt return defense ranked #50. Net punting ranked #100.
Block kicks allowed ranked #92 at 3. No blocked kicks.
1 blocked punt allowed. No blocked punts.
UConn was 10/16 on field goal attempts, or 62.5%. This rated higher than 100 in FBS. UConn was 2/8 on FGs beyond 40 yds.

LM as return guy was not the way to go.
In a way I hope LM ends up transferring to a FCS school next year. I want to see the young guys like Marriner, Clax, Arkeel Newsome...maybe even Joe Williams in the mix with DeLorenzo.

Near the end of the season this is what I was hoping for as well. Hoping Marriner was RS'd?

It was a beetter option than burning somebody's redshirt, which PP would probably have done. I also wonder if that was the choice so that Lemelle could focus on receiving.
