Some Guy: UConn close to signing Hurley

Why in the world did Jacobs just tweet a Hurley Dunkin Donuts Youtube video from 2016?

I've watched it 3 times & can't find the hidden message other than wife says "go Rhoddy"....I'll take that as a bad signal from Jacobs.

OMG he held up that line for so long. Get Stallings!

Dunkin Donuts reference clearly is because UConn is big enough to have UConn logos appear on Dunkin Donut cups in CT. Can anyone in the URI & Pitt regions tell me that they get the same level of treatment and area prominence? I think not, ergo, its Hurley time

I believe we're the only school with our logo on dasani watter bottles as well.

Although Alabama might as well.

Either way, not helping us land Hurley either.

Because the last energetic UConn head coach to drive a Lexus before and during his tenure was none other than Bob Diaco.

It’s a sign. Hurley’s coming.

I've never heard the guy speak before.
It took me five minutes to figure out why he sounded familiar.
Guy speaks like Christopher Walken.
Which, you know, it's not. A terrible. Thing.
Wow.

He also looks a decade older than 45. Frankly, he easily looks like he's Bobby's older brother instead of vice versa.

I hope I'm not a party pooper, but it wouldn't surprise me one bit if he chose Pitt over us.. Simply because of the ACC affiliation. Yeah, Ollie lead Huskies of the past 2 seasons were major disappointments, but it's also clearly FACT that conference affiliation has decimated recruiting prowess for MBB... We took a HUGE hit with the mass exodus after the 2017 season too... recipe for a program in disarray.. and so quick too.. It's as if we never tasted a National Championship.. 2014 seems like light years away now..

Delayed not because of the storm. Because he can't decide.

I'm working under the assumption that he's going to Pitt.

He's been coaching a lot longer. Serious coaching--and some of kids he coached, like JR Smith I believe--can do a number on you, and not many coaches have a portrait that ages instead of themselves like Brad Stevens.

Stop looking at it this way. Hurley appears to be a great coach, has taken a few schools and brought them up a level... If he goes to Pitt he has to fight his way from the bottom of the gutter upward, and man that is a tough gutter to work out of. If he comes to UConn, with first class facilities and a fan base ready to be whipped into a fervor, he can lead us back to dominance of the AAC within 5 years. His recruiting connections and our location, also in close proximity to where he and his family have been, all a perfect storm for him to succeed here. Once he does that... a better ACC job comes a calling, which I am fully prepared for him to take I will thank him for #5 and hope we can find someone else good or that we at least made it out of the AAC in that time

He isn't 65, this isn't going to be his last rodeo (unless it is and he wants to be JC #2 which I'm fine with)

We had the same amount of ACC wins as Pitt this year?

,
So, the point I am trying to make is that UConn must win to be relevant, those schools do not have to win to be relevant to themselves or their respective conference.
Making money for the university isn't the same as being relevant. For years no one showed up at Conte for BC (their new coaches has gotten some wins, and a tiny bit of traction). Kids at the school don't care. I know, I did my grad work at BC and no one cared (and I taught undergrads, so I know).

You're conflating making money for the university with being nationally interesting and relevant.

Yep - was in Pburgh over the past end of year holidays for a week - had Pitt logos on the DD cups.....

He's a fiercely loyal guy, and if he wins here, he'll keep getting raises. He may leave to go somewhere else, but there are only a handful of jobs that are better than UConn, especially when it's gotten up off the mat.

But again, people making this blanket claim that P5 is automatically better than non-P5...

If he takes the Pitt job when they're throwing that kind of desperation money around, it's because they were desperate and paid a huge "Our Job Sucks" tax.

good morning to the yard...good to see i missed 600 replies over many dozens of pages of non-news...#hurleywatch

I’ve got the situation mentally boxed in; if he stays - he’s delusional and wasting his talents, if he takes Pitt - he just wanted the money. Either path w/o Uconn means he’s a little nutz in my book.

My opinion is Pitt is out. It's either URI or UCONN, and the longer it takes, it's more likely he stays at URI. They throw him some bones and he stays with what he knows.
