What a day. I still havent caught up. I am so thrilled for these women. I have met the biggest names in the game from players to coaches and all, yet the All American Red Heads still steal my heart every time.
Publishers, media, you name it, I have heard from them today.
I hope this will lead to even more positive things for the All American Red Heads. It is like living in a movie.
There will be so many coming to our area. I wouldnt be surprised to see close to 100 players flying and driving into CT in Sept.
So many stories since the announcement. Being escorted by police with other inductees down in New Orleans.
radio shows, newspapers and more.
A good thing for women's basketball. Regardless of who you cheer for.
There was a team called the Olympic Co-ed's in the late 30s. Helen Stephens (Fulton Flash) was a world record holder in track at the 36 Olympics. She played for the RH's in 37-38 and then set out to form her own team. It lasted for a few years.
The Red Heads would have numerous teams created after them, including Hazel Walkers Arkansas Travelers (story to be in our book).
Yet, no one could re-create the 50 year marathon the RH's did
Think about it. A women's basketball team that last 50 years. It had to make money or it wouldnt have survived. It is amazing by todays standards.
Yet, they did it. 200+ games a season. all away games. winning upwards and over 80% by the mid 1970s. AND MAKING A PROFIT.
a thesis for a graduate student.
This past week has been so awesome.
I feel bad UConn lost, but the All American Red Heads just did something no other women's team has ever done.
Get inducted into Naismith.
We can all celebrate that.
