Solo Ball BACK!!!

And just like that everything feels good again. This portal stuff, it's challenging, but it definitely makes for a much more engaged fanbase in the off season.

I'm more new to the boneyard so correct me if I'm wrong. Has there always been "return" announcements like this for non nba prospects? I guess I always assume everyone that isn't an obvious 1st around pick will be back unless they specifically say they are transferring.

Not flaming, just curious. I never even thought there was a chance Solo might leave. I havent even thought Reed might leave until people here started talking about it.
Lets Go Mets

So, since it's been almost exactly one announcement a day, who announces tomorrow? Three announcements to go right? Reed, Karaban, Ross.

I absolutely love it. In the current climate, with everyone running on one year contracts, i love the continuity we’re seeing. It may be old fashioned but I love watching the jump our players make from one year to the next. I’m not blind to the advantages of the portal, so we clearly shouldn’t follow the Dabo Sweeney model but building around as many of Stewart, Ball, Reed and Ross as we can keep should be the way IMO.

I’m glad that our boys are coming back but this portal concept is sad. Legit question - Is the concept of the student athlete nearing extinction? Do eligibility requirements still exist? With the growth of AAU programs and rampant gambling in all things sports related, what is happening shouldn’t surprise anyone. Personally, I think that there will be major changes ahead or college athletics will take a huge hit going forward.

After watching him being interviewed after the Florida loss you just felt like he truly bleeds blue. So glad to have him back.

It does feel weird waiting for "I'm Back" or "I'm Gone" from each and every player, so much harder as a fan.

If Solo's ball handling and toughness can catch up with his athleticism and shooting we'll be looking at an All-American. Between he and Stew I think we've got some serious Junior seasons to look forward to

It is a fairly new development related to the portal. Almost every college player checks his options after the season. There are all free agents.

Ball and Mullins could be the best 3 pt shooting duo in the country
Certainly great to have that kind of shooting potential and UConn’s offense has been one of the highest rated in college basketball but the reason we have titles in 23’ and 24’ is defense. 30-0 run. Shooters go into slumps in big games and we are seeing it now, defense does not and that’s what Hurley will try to address with the portal.

I want to be that college professor who says one of these kids who have enrolled at their fourth school who says that they aren’t passing their basic studies class and can’t play. lol - like that would happen - never.

Or perhaps also "Independent Contractors"?

Such a pure shooting stroke. Welcome back Solo. Time to do great things.

I agree. The NCAA , however, is incompetent. Below are my proposals.
1. "Salary Cap" - make this universal. Every school will have so much $$$ to spend (aka buy) on players per sport
2. Two year contracts - If they are not happy after year 1, have a buyout clause.

This is great news, and if you read the comments our core 3 returnees will be set shortly
Let's hope so.

I happened on Zanetto's podcast from the weekend last night and he claims someone in the know told him #3 is up in the air. As I understood it, he supposedly has an issue with Dan Hurley's style of coaching and may be listening to other offers.

Solo baby, ATTACK THE BASKET. If you add this to your game, you are going to be unstoppable. Hit the threes and rock the rim, you can do it all.

Jordan Hawkins
Jeremy Lamb
BG
Boat

Add this wrinkle and let Mullins be the sharpshooter that opens it up for you to do both

Love having him back

Having a PG who can attack and create space? Ball, Mullins and Karaban on the outside, there is going to be a lot of good looks.

I'm glad he's coming back. The things I want to see is improvement with on-ball defense (especially with steals). He's such an offensive weapon, but he'll need to help generate offense from good defense. If he's hoping to break into the NBA, this is what he'll need too...so I'm hoping it's what he works on the most.
