Did you really expect otherwise last August? Yeah it's been maddening because these kids are playing hard and have had the opportunity for at least two more wins at this point. But this is a very young team.
If you choose to, you can see the future, and it looks pretty good. Shirreffs is only a Sophomore and he's the best QB we've seen in years. Newsome is the big play guy we've been missing for year...another Sophomore, TMyers and Bloom, how long has it been since we've had guys who catch the ball, now we have two tight ends who are... Sophomores. I guess you can throw in Beals, who forgot he wasn't playing soccer one play and then came back a couple of plays later with a touchdown reception. He's a Freshman.
The talent is there and getting better. We've got a head coach who inherited a dumpster fire and at least has some talented guys here who are competing. Oh and guess what, he's a Sophomore head coach.
I've had my doubts about Diaco, his off season patter really got on my nerves, but what you want to see in a second year head coach who is progress. I see it. Is the play calling what I'd like it to be with the benefit of hindsight, of course not, hell I'd like to see a game where I'm not worried about getting the play off on time, but it does seem to me that we are headed in the right direction.
It's frustrating to watch a young team lose winnable games, but it's fun to watch UConn football again. That's what I choosing to focus on, and that and the future.
