Another bit of treasure from that same trove;

"giving Schuey the ball in the low post is like giving a 4 year old a hand grenade... something bad is going to happen"Geno, commenting on the early development of Kelly Schumacher, during the Geno Show

Actually, Breanna was pretty close. Look at the stats from her first ten games.

Lou's mantra this year (and beyond): Be like Stewie.
Her mantra should be--I'm like no one else, I'm a damn good Katlie Lou!!
The kid knows how to play basket ball. In two tough games, with lots of pressure, she looked at ease on the floor. Capable and effective. Superstardom shall come--it is written all over her.

She's a freshman, who's played 6 games in college. Can we get a larger sample size before she's anointed as the next big thing? Stewie wasn't Stewie at this point in her freshman season.
Yea, but we knew she was gonna be.

Don't think Samuelson will hit the Stewart/Moore/DT heights, but I think she's got a shot at the Bird/Charles heights. Maybe, we'll see?

Yo huskeynut - Great breakdown description of "be like Stewie." We are on the same page with many other posters who see how Geno feels about Lou - (he knows her potential & will be on her case about it.) IN addition, Geno (and lots of us) see that Lou has many of the same qualities of Stewie. Who can shoot a 3 and then post up? Stewie, Tuck, Lou. Who can see over a press and fire a strong pass? Some sharp posters haved also noticed Lou's demeanor and the poise under fire. I have not seen her run around like a chicken without a head!! Lou had so many qualities and the NECESSARY BBIQ to move forward. I will say the only skill that I have not seen much is Lou's shot blocking. Other that that--she definitely has the offensive skills (her ball handling is not too shabby either) and the understanding of team defense. She is the real deal. Let's enjoy and admire her growth & development during this frosh season.
Geno knows what Lou can do and this is where the genius comes in -- Wringing out every ounce of that potential over the next few years.

We are on the same page about Katie Lou. In the last 2 games Katie Lou looked comfortable--knew pretty much (remember she is a new Freshman) where to go what to do. Her understanding of the game (not Geno's system yet) can be see.
She rebounds, dribbles past opposing guards, makes the long outlet pass with accuracy. Her defense needs work, her "help" defense mostly--Geno will get her there. It is rare for Geno to play freshmen as long as he has played Katie Lou and at times Collier--the Master sees potential and is milking it.

Who knows what heights Katie Lou can reach. Charles certainly wasn't Charles in her freshman year. Moore came off the bench. DT is/was DT--as Stewie is Stewie--some talent is never replicated . I disagree at my own peril --but dis agree nevertheless. I hate to anoint anyone supergirl, but Katie lou has the potential.
Notice I haven't the courage to talk about Sue in anything other than the highest tones. My first Uconn WBB love.

I don't have the foggiest idea what you're talking about. Is this some sort of conspiracy theory? You should have thought this through more before posting it along with things like it's pretty obvious what you are doing. It's gobbledygook.

Sorry, I don't live on this board, one of my priorities is my grandson who is in remission from leukemia so we feel very blessed right now.

Thanks for confirming what a lot of people have been messaging me about. Obviously it hit a nerve. I am now 100% sure that those messaging me know exactly who you are. I know Boo and Davis, along with a lot of the recruits AAU coaches who you have put down. Is that some kind of subliminal threat, if so it is wasted on me, but I will pass it on to at least DJBs and KLSs AAU coaches, possibly others, as they will be able to forward it on to them I am sure, then maybe you can say how much you never think either of them will amount to much to their faces at games or when you bump in to them at some point in the future.

A few years back we had a couple of parents on the Bro, who joined just as their daughters figured out they were coming to UCLA. It went something like - the other players in their class were not as good, they focused on ALL the negatives they could to put them down, ignoring ALL the positives, they kept promoting their own agenda. They tried to act like they had information by using google to scour the internet but strangely had ALL the positive information about their own, and then tried to say that any of the future recruits who posed a playing time threat would not be a good match. You know exactly what I am talking about.

May it be so. BTW I have DT and SB in the same region. Sue was blessed with costars unavailable for much of DT's ride and she, SB, played them like a well tuned grand piano. That should not count against where she fits in the lexicon of UConn WCBB greats.

Stewie scored more points in her first 10 games at UConn--I think it was 169--than anyone before her, including 4-time AP All-American Maya Moore. That was an indication of how good she could become. Then Stewie hit a bit of a slump, as teams got physical with her and her confidence waned. As we all know, she turned it up late in the season.

My comment about Lou was referencing her own statement about watching Stewie and learning from her. Just as players learned from Maya, Kaleena learned from Kelly, etc., Lou, Napheesa, et al. can learn from Breanna Stewart.

" Then Stewie hit a bit of a slump, as teams got physical with her and her confidence waned."

I remember the slump but I remember the circumstance a bit differently. That's not saying that I remember it correctly - just differently. My understanding at the time was that there was a bit of early push back from Stewart because " I already know how to play basketball. " If that memory is correct, you can imagine how that quote would go over with Auriemma. I thought at the time her struggles were as much butting heads as it was slump.

"Kaleena learned from Kelly . . ." except the part about defense. ;)

The only thing that's been confirmed here is that you have your tinfoil hat fastened way to tight. You and whoever you are talking too need to worry about the voices in your heads, not me. Subliminal threats? AAU coaches? I'd be laughing at this if I didn't feel so bad for you. You managed to take a benign conversation about Katie Lou Samuelson's season thus far and turn it into some Machiavellian plot. The only things missing are the black helicopters. I'm going to save this post for any future times I need to remind myself of my sanity.

Sorry about your grandson.

I don't recall that.

Further, I don't understand how a UCONN frosh can "butt heads" with Geno and remain with the program unless you are "Sveta."

I DOOOO remember that CD had said "My fault. My fault . . .." in some manner I don't take it too literally. CD said something to the effect that she had to coach her differently. And worked with her after practice. Below suggests her extra work in the gym. Not anything to do with butting of heads. It may have been a CD idea - why she had said ta the time "My fault . . ."

I think slu has to be one of the most misunderstood posters on this board. He's an excellent poster. And if you disagree - so what. Not every one is going to agree on every issue. Whatever.

This. UConn has played the #1 ranked schedule thus far according to Massey. These games aren't against teams with #200+ rankings. She and Collier are being thrown into the middle of top flight division 1 games right out of high school. Yes, they have great support but the opposition has been formidable.
The formula - get challenged early, hone the game during the conference schedule, a few big OOC games along the way, be mentally and physically prepared for March. Seems to work!
