I'm sitting next to Linda Cimino, head coach of the Binghamton (NY) women's team and she tells me that UConn will be back in the Final Four next year. I told her I'm concerned about the guard situation and she said that Crystal will be really good but don't count out Molly Bent.

"She's a little Kelly Faris. She's really good and you [UConn fans] are going to love her". She called Molly a recruiting "steal".

Nice! Good to hear. I hope Kyla surprises us also!

Geno says really good things about Molly. I just want to see if her athleticism measures up. She seems to be smart and tough enough. She and Crystal can learn together.

I think that Lou has been a top 20 player over the past 2 months. I expect Napheesa to vastly improve. Gabby will look to expand her game. Those two are very hard workers. Kia will be in charge. I hope Saniya and Natalie can boost their confidence. They have lots of potential. Geno says he's excited about next season. So am I. We'll need to be patient and lower our expectations, but that doesn't mean we'll lose.

I have noticed (and have been part of) a pattern on this board for the past few years -- ever since a certain Hoosier graduated.

Whenever we want to pay a player the highest possible compliment for commitment, talent maximization, and team-first attitude, even despite less than overwhelming physical gifts, Kelly Faris is the gold standard which we always cite.

You may recall that I did that myself just before Kia Nurse first arrived in Storrs, and I have seen nothing since then to invalidate the comparison. I think Kia's physical talent is a bit better than Kelly's, but certainly not at the level of any of the Triumvirate / Trinity (whatever word is in vogue today on The Boneyard). She is the new Kelly Faris, and Molly Bent may turn out to be a newer one.

And there are certainly "old" Kelly Farises, such as Mel Thomas and Jen Rizzotti.

But somehow Kelly still seems to own the patent on that particular player mold, at least on this forum.

Sounds very promissing, but will she be able to score more than Kelly ? Time will tell. I am always excited to see how the incoming players pan out . :)

Geno said this about Molly in November:

"She's very fast with the ball, she goes by people, makes shots from the perimeter and has great instincts. She's going to be tremendous."

I've said on this forum that I think Molly is a better and more complete basketball player than her Tabor teammate (Araion Bradhsaw) who is ranked #32 by Hoopgurlz (and #70-something by PN).

I am excited to watch Crystal Dangerfield next season. She'll play a lot out of necessity and will experience a lot of growing pains. She'll have a couple of advantages over Moriah as a freshman -- she's physically stronger and she's a better perimeter shooter than Mo was as a freshman.

Joe, your post crystallized for me why in my mind Breanna is clearly the GOAT. She combines Maya and Dee's ability to totally take over a game with Kelly's absolute determination to do all of the little things that contribute to Ws.

Hmm, perhaps we need to start a Kelly Faris Award next year for the player has the biggest impact on game due to hustle plays.

Um! I guess I had always assumed the Kib's BadAss award was in Kelly honor. If I'm going in a tough basketball spot Faris is my #1 over Barbara Turner IMO.

Molly Bent will be called upon to respond to two basic challenges:

1. Can she play? and,

2. Is she a badass?
Geno recruited her, so that makes #1 a virtual certainty.

As for #2, we'll see. . . .;)
Hey Kib, you made last night's broadcast for an extended period of time - FYI.

Cimino isn't the only one to make the Faris comparison. Here's what Bill Coughlin her AAU coach had to say about Bent in a Courant article last year by Altavilla- " Bent, whose skill set Coughlin compares to Kelly Faris and Carla Berube, was being recruited by Vanderbilt, Kentucky and South Florida."

Apparently, she is also a scholar - "Bent, a promising 5-foot-9 junior guard from Barnstable, Mass., already with SAT scores soaring in the vicinity of 2,000, . . . "

I would not bet against us making the final four next year.

We have Geno!

I have lost the bubble on this one. Is 2000 such a good SAT score anymore? Isn't the essay now optional but used to be mandatory? Aren't there still some very good school that don't consider the SATs in the admissions process?

Oh, you youngsters - Jamelle, baby! Cut your heart out, sauté it, and have you begging for the privilege of eating it! I believe Thomas Harris was a big fan of Uconn WCBB circa 1995 when we was dreaming up his Silence of the Lambs character.

I'll date myself but the maximum score used to be 1600 - 800 on each half. 800 was also the maximum on the achievement tests and you were expected to take 2-4 of those.

Yes, it is a good score. 2000 is the 93rd percentile.

Since 2400 is the best possible, 2000 is very good. Test has three parts: Writing, Math, Critical Reading, each worth 800.
