If they need Puyol, they will use him. If not, he will redshirt. Pretty simple I would imagine. Ideal situation is Christen stays healthy and BP get his RS. When he was used we were 5-6 and playing at home for a shot at a bowl game. I don't fault PP for putting his best available option on the field.

Your groveling is offbase here. You can criticize many of Coach PP's moves many of which being in game strategy and coaching management, but this ridiculous....... Who was suppose to kick in the last game with a chance to go to a bowl game? Even if we we didn't have a chance to go bowling, he was still behind Christian who was coming back next year anyways. So he will get his redshirt this year. It's not like other positions where you trot out a few different guys....Unless your starting kicker completely s***s the bed in the first half of the season, you only use 1 kicker all year. So Puyol wasn't going to play this year either. If Puyol beats Christian out this year then he will still play 3 full years plus 1 game. If he redshirts this year and he is given the job next year he still plays 3 full years and 1 game.........

What's the difference whether he redshirts last year or this year? Winning our last game would have meant making a bowl game, you have to field your best team and throwing away a kicker's RS, when you can RS him next year is a pittance.

I'm guessing you would be blasting PP for not using Puyol if we lost that game on a missed FG or PAT, and it cost a bowl bid. I'm not a fan of Coach Blue either, but that is one of the few decisions of his that I have no issues with.

Given the circumstances, at home with a bowl bid on the line and an injured kicker...what would you propose he do? Most of the time a kicker goes the whole season. So odds are Puyol gets his redshirt year. If for some reason Christian doesn't come back, or gets re-injured, Puyol will be the kicker for this year and the next 2. That's what would have happened anyway.

No big deal if a kicker only gets 4 years. There are always more kickers available to be recruited, and for Puyol's pro chances, is one more year really likely to matter? There is always Europe, Canada, to kick in if you're only one year away.
