UConnWas the SNY deal for whole Big East, or just UConn for the local market?
I think it was just UConn. I have not seen any other BE teams on SNY. They do have some A10 & Ivy League. Was the SNY deal for whole Big East, or just UConn for the local market?
I suspect that if there were games that were not televised, they would likely be packaged and sold to SNY. I think every game will end up being televised.I’m more worried that not all games will be televised by this new patchwork of coverage.
That's what I'm going to do. Although typically after the men's baseball season, I pause my subscription for the summer and switch to shows I want to see on various subscription services like prime, Apple+ etc.So now what? Stick with Hulu and get ESPN+ as part of the deal
Streaming is still very clunky IMO. Cable is stupidly easy and just works. There’s an interesting divide here, and I see it among my local friends too. Most folks over 70 have cable tv and don’t stream much. All the folks at 70 or just a little under, like me, have begun ditching cable and tend to stream everything through services like Hulu or YouTube. We’re all watching the same programs, I suspect. But they get packaged a little differently.
The confusion surrounding how to watch SNY seems to be exacerbated by this difference. We are all n a moment of social change and TV access reflects this too.
DirecTV is your answer, or WAS.Well, YouTube dropped SNY in my area two years ago.![]()
FWIW...I had DirecTV with SNY and I have Hulu Live with the Fox Sports App. Seeing how WBB is a winter sport, I would rather stick with streaming over satellite for UConn WBB games.DirecTV is your answer, or WAS.
Since I can't watch SNY, I won't miss it. I did listen to the announcers when SNY was available to me, but I have noticed over time that if I mute the commentators (many of whom are, as suggested, not very knowledgeable) that I don't miss hearing about what I'm seeing. UConn fans are generally as or more knowledgeable than most announcers about the Huskies and don't need the commentary accompanying most games. As is generally known, starting with the 2025-26 season, UConn women's basketball games will no longer be televised by SNY due to a new media rights deal for the Big East. The new deal includes NBC Sports, TNT Sports, and Fox Sports as content providers, which means UConn games will be spread across multiple networks instead of being concentrated on one. This implies that not only will SNY not cover the actual play-by-play, we wilI also lose the pre-and post-game analysis and commentary by Kara Wolters and, often, Gary Apple.
Losing the play-by-play coverage is IMO a significant loss as Meg and Allen clearly are more focused on and more knowledgeable about the Huskies than any of the network talking heads. This seems irredeemable unfortunately, particularly as Meg has been such a part of the Husky family for so very long.
But I see no reason why SNY should discontinue the pre- and post-game coverage and also other coverage such as the Geno show and other specials as there is already a precedent for such coverage on SNY. This is exactly the kind of coverage that they provide for the NY Jets. I would hope for similar coverage to continue for us as well.
If anyone agrees, please reach out to SNY and let them know.
A real fan would have moved to SNY territory.I could not get SNY where I live in So. Carolina. I should have more luck with NBC,TNT . and FOX sports. So I think this is an up-grade for me. GO FRESHMEN!!!! GO SOPHOMORES!!!! GO HUSKIES!!!!!
They would have them if they thought enough people would tune in to watch == ad revenue to pay for the production. Letting them know you would tune in (if you would) would be a good thing. It's a 2 edged sword...if SNY is being forced out of the UConn game coverage, why should they continue to have UConn related shows??? Did the previous broadcast partner continue to broadcast UConn related shows (I actually do not know the answer)?
Or if SNY is truly a UConn fan, maybe they will continue coverage in some manner.
I don't think that UConn had any voice in it's broadcast partner, it is all controlled by the Big East broadcast rights that they have recently agreed to.
... and unlike SNY broadcasting our games from the tip off (besides the 30 minute pre-game analysis) all of the new channel outlets may very well give priority to a previous live televised sporting event if running over and the start time may either be delayed or pushed to another affiliated channel something that doesn't occur with exclusive SNY coverage. We'll be losing a valuable member of our media pool. I don't think people appreciate how much extra coverage SNY does for the program. We're not going to get that with patchwork national networks who will treat us like one of their other dozens of programs in their college sports portfolios.
I watched the Syracuse/Binghamton WBB on SNY last night. They must have been hard up for content ….I think it was just UConn. I have not seen any other BE teams on SNY. They do have some A10 & Ivy League.
Try DirecTV. That's how we get it in the Hilton Head area.I could not get SNY where I live in So. Carolina. I should have more luck with NBC,TNT . and FOX sports. So I think this is an up-grade for me. GO FRESHMEN!!!! GO SOPHOMORES!!!! GO HUSKIES!!!!!
I don't have DirecTV . I had it and cancelled when for basic they wanted $189.00 a month. There is so much garbage on TV today I felt I could do without it. I use my computer to watch the games on You Tube when it is posted. I can get almost everything I want to watch on my computer.Try DirecTV. That's how we get it in the Hilton Head area.
I'm in SC, have YouTubeTV and stream the games on the Fox Sports App.And I am still confused by the fact that some out of market YouTubeTV subscribers can stream the SNY broadcasts using the Fox Sports App while others can't. It's my understanding that some fans in MD and SC can't but fans in NM can.
But next season, no more confusion, I guess.
As a past New Englander now also living in South Carolina, I share your current pain and am excited to have upgraded services. Would encourage the new networks to bring in Meg and Alan, if not for announcers, at least for half time or similar analysts. Would be smart business for them.I could not get SNY where I live in So. Carolina. I should have more luck with NBC,TNT . and FOX sports. So I think this is an up-grade for me. GO FRESHMEN!!!! GO SOPHOMORES!!!! GO HUSKIES!!!!!
Someone noted in a general board thread they saw former PAC12 announcers now doing games for the BIG10 network so it's totally possible. As a past New Englander now also living in South Carolina, I share your current pain and am excited to have upgraded services. Unfortunately, I am an out of market fan and SNY doesn't seem to post the UConn related shows to YouTube. They would have them if they thought enough people would tune in to watch == ad revenue to pay for the production. Letting them know you would tune in (if you would) would be a good thing.
Thank you, good to hear.I'm in SC, have YouTubeTV and stream the games on the Fox Sports App.
Probably not all the BE games, but I bet all of the UConn games. Eyeballs are the broadcast equivalent of internet clickbait. The patchwork is not going to pass up the eyeballs that follow UConn. Cha-ching.I’m more worried that not all games will be televised by this new patchwork of coverage.
