Getting older, I guess. My wife said “listen to this” and played a recording of me sleeping last night- she was awakened and took it then. I’ve known I snore for years now- my parents sure snored- but this is first time I actually heard myself. It isn’t extended silence and then gasping as I breathe again, so I’m ruling out sleep apnea. Sleeping on side helps, but I guess I move around. I have been using a mouth guard for last two weeks (dentist says I need to protect teeth from grinding) that claims to reduce snoring, but it isn’t working yet.

Has anyone tried something that helps reduce snoring? I don’t know if I need a cpap unit but they look scary and way too intrusive. Wife uses ear plugs which lets her sleep better, but I’d like to eliminate the snoring at the source if possible.

Continue to deny it. She recorded you. Audio only? No video no confession. That’s my take.

However, I had same problem. Found out I have AFIB. Which can cause you to stop breathing. Especially at night. Since I have been taking medication I sleep much better. Without waking up myself by not breathing. And snoring decreased.

I generally stick with breathe right strips. Don't go off brand. Have also used a product from Hale that worked great.

Get tested for sleep apnea. In the mean time, get a PO2 meter that records oxygen saturation and pulse while you sleep - not a watch, get one that securely fits on your finger.

If you are obese, losing weight could eliminate the need for a cpap machine. Also might keep your wife from finding someone who doesn't snore.

Tried Breath Rights. Didn't work.
Tried throat and nasal sprays. Didn't work.
Snore so bad it actually broke up a new relationship (not a bad thing in the end).

This guard changed my life. Snoring Mouthguard

It basically pulls your tongue up off the back of your throat. I have a Whoop fitness tracker and the immediate change in my Sleep Score and Recovery was eye popping. If you buy that mouthpiece and it doesn't change your sleep and snoring for the better, I'll refund your money.

What medication are you taking. PM me if you wish. I've been dealing with breathing issues for awhile. I had turbinate reduction and balloon sinuplasty and they didn't work for me.

OK, Deep. I just ordered one. fingers crossed. My snoring at home is not a problem because we are empty nesters(almost) and we have multiple bedrooms. The problem is when we travel.

Get tested for apnea. I wouldn’t rule it out based on your recording. The consequences of not treating it are quite severe (high increase in stroke chances for one).
I’ve had a cpap for about 10 years. Mine is just an under nose pillow, not a full mask. I’m so used to it now, I can’t sleep without it.
The warm humidified air it puts out is actually really nice when the air is dry in the winter.

My mouthguard for anti-snoring is ZQuiet- I believe its strategy is to move bottom teeth slightly forward. It increases saliva- does this thing make you “drool” a little? Sorry, sounds disgusting

My wife snores - I use Bose Sleepbuds - they cut out the most noise, I wear them every night now. Bose doesn't make them anymore but a new company has taken them over: Ozlo Sleepbuds

I've also gotten a foam pillow Tempur-Pedic Official Website | Shop Tempur-Pedic Mattresses, Beds & More that I pull over my head/ear as well.

Running a fan is helpful.

Have another bed where she can retreat to works as well.

Basically sucks for her. The Cpap is way worse than your snoring soundwise and it doesn't sound like you need it.

Sleep tape I've heard helps - it makes you breathe through your nose. Mouth Taping: Is It Dangerous?

I agree that the prudent approach would be to get tested for sleep apnea in a sleep lab. The results will probably enlighten and astound you. One caveat, I know of no one who has experienced the sleep lab who has not been diagnosed with sleep apnea. As noted in posts above the medical implications could be severe, predominantly stroke and AFib.

The solution, if indeed sleep apnea, will probably be a Cpap. I have been a long time user of a CPAP, probably over 20 years. Takes a little while to get accustomed to but it is now automatic. There are a number of options for masks and your doctor can experiment which one suits you best. Some individuals can never adapt to use of a CPAP, I suspect for some portion of individuals in this category it is their preconceived notion that they don’t require a CPAP.

Arranging for a sleep study would be the prudent approach. A major benefit would be domestic tranquility.

Well I respect self-diagnosing, you are biologically wrong. I too snored loudly and like you, I did not stop breathing (per my wife). And like your wife, mine recorded my snoring, which led me to go get a sleep study done. It turned out I had severe apnea. Just saying....may not be a bad idea to get it checked out.

She could just wear earplugs.

Or run a white noise thingy. I have a friend who runs a YouTube black screen video on his bedroom tv - thunderstorms/rain. It drowns out his snoring so his wife can sleep. The only negative is his sleep apnea could actually be killing him.

Post and let us know how it goes. I'm curious. I would think it would be uncomfortable and dry out your tongue.

I would definitely do a sleep study. If it turns out, you don't have an issue, at least you can cross that off the list. I did one and it was stunning how many times I was waking up during the night. I've used a CPAP since and the change is huge. Once you get used to it, it becomes second nature. Like some posters above, I use the nasal pillows.

A buddy of mine had sleep apnea and hated the idea of a CPAP. He had a surgical procedure done that implants a device that he turns on 15 minutes before bed which prevents snoring. It seems like a lot to me, but he swears by it.

As others said, and from personal experience, go get a sleep assessment. You may have sleep apnea. It can be a pretty serious thing with negative health consequences. The CPAP changed my life really (and my wife's). You'll just feel better.

I think the reason many people who get an assessment find they have sleep apnea is that you don't really get the assessment until all the signs are there. Probably many people with it who never get tested.

I'm a brutal snorer. I don't know what your dentist recommended but I had the ones I had for teeth grinding which did nothing for my snoring and probably made it worse.

I bought the Zyppah mouth guard. It takes a lot of getting use to and I never thought I would ever be able to sleep with it at first.

After a week or so though I could sleep with it in all night long without issue. My wife said that I don't snore at all with the mouth guard in so she is very happy with it. I wake up feeling better too because it has greatly improved the quality of my sleep.

-Very effective at eliminating snoring
-Very Awkward to get use but does get better
-90 day money back gaurantee
-I highly recommend and my wife does too

edit: Drooling can be a slight issue but nothing too gross in my experience
