I'll admit it. I'm not fond of Brenda Frese. Ever since we beat Maryland 72-55 (Nov.2013) in College Park. Though she praised UConn, and Stewie in particular, her snide post-game comment about Geno really ticked me off. Remember, this game (#1 vs. #8) found UConn playing without Kaleena and Morgan, both out with injuries, having only seven healthy scholarship players suited, and only Chong and Banks available off the bench.
Frese: "I have said this all along: they (UConn) went from nine All-Americans to seven. If they lose a couple more, Geno [Auriemma] might have to start coaching like the rest of us. They are obviously extremely talented and they continue to show, despite their injuries, that they have talent and depth at every position.”
Geno will never coach "like the rest of us," Brenda.
Why bother playing the game- just add up which team has the most All-Americans and award that team the victory. I guess she forgot that day that Maryland had a paltry six All-Americans on the floor (Alyssa Thomas, Lexie Brown, Shatori Walker-Kimbrough, Laurin Mincy, Brionna Jones and Malina Howard).
Frese would have been better served simply acknowledging that they were beaten by the better team (and the best coach in the game).
Having gone so negative on Frese, I'm actually glad she got the AA guard Slocum. Why? Because in spite of taking her yearly UConn beating and losing AA Lexie Brown, she had the guts to schedule UConn for the next 3 years. Unlike that coach in Durham NC. For that I give Frese a lot of credit.
