That was quite the take indeed. Cowherd makes a living off the metaphor - it’s actually quite catchy to listen to, but you can see how at times it can come with zero homework to back it up.

I was a fan of cowherd for years but quit him for this very reason. He says falsehoods so flip and final that it's easy to get sucked in.
"Willie Mays was actually an average ball player. It was all about media coverage in those days and Willie was great press. Whatever they fed you, you ate. As a player he was only good for a few years"

Shouldn’t even be allowed on the air for saying that about Willie one of the top 5 players in MLB history. I actually saw Willie make a throw in 1965against the Mets. It was an unbelievable clotheline even that late in his career.

Damn, I should've made a disclaimer- this was an exaggeration of something he might say. He never said that.

At least not in public.

Are you s@@@ing me? Willie Mays? Off the top of my head, I know he hit 660 home runs, and was in the 50s a couple or few times. And, “the catch”. I’m in my 40s so I never saw him, but, who the hell sh@@s on Willie mays?

He's nothing but hot air and always has been. Originally his schtick was college football and somehow because he has the gift of gab, that made him an expert on all of sport. Anyone listening to that moron should have their head examined
