The recruiting "experts" are all shocked by this. Everyone thought it was a two horse race between Kansas and Providence. I think both fanbases thought they had him locked up too.
The title of this thread should be "St. John's gets Jakarr Sampson (again)". There is speculation that Lavin will not return as coach next season. Not sure what impact Lavin's status will have on this recruit. Someone on the FAN was saying the other day that Lavin's decision may depend on whether Harkless turns pro.
if sju really wanted to get there bball back up with the gtowns and novas then they should have cleaned house better and got a real coach. lavin was a good coach but came from the pac/ucla right? a shaka smart in nyc would do wonders for that program. some 1 there still just doesn't get it 100%. keep 5 of the 30 kids home from the city each year and go ball. the knick were down for so many years that a ok sju team last year was the buzz of buzz.
and for the record i am not a lavin hater. i hope him well health wise and he has a great wife. but lets be real. guy can recruit in big cities well but is not a game time coach.
