Singare - Unsung Hero

Youssouf wil be a 10pt/10 rebound guy before you know it. Will happen faster than we think. Seems like a fast learner with huge heart and hustle. Only issue will be minutes
I really don't see that happening. It's great if he can give us solid minutes being serviceable. 10/10 is big time for a college player. He's a spot guy for us this season and he'll be behind 2 stud centers next season.

I see him in a similar role next year, maybe with a few more minutes depending how quickly Riebe adjusts to the college game. His senior year will be an impactful 60/40 backup to Riebe if he stays or a quality trasfer.

His first foul and only foul was called when he was playing D with his hands. After that he seemed to focus on using his body and verticality. You know the staff has been telling him this and it showed last night. He gave us excellent minutes after it was obvious that the Zags would target AK down low.

How many centers have we had the averaged a double/double?

Zags missed some bunnies when he was in there. Hard to say if his straight up defense made a difference or they just missed them. But he smartened up quick and stayed on the floor which is a huge improvement l. Also got some huge offensive rebounds that would have proved even bigger if we could have hit any of those threes he kicked out to. Did his job and did it well. Hurley has to be thrilled to get those kind of minutes out of him in that spot.

With Samson out, for a while, expect a little more focus (in upcoming practices) on Singare's offensive game.

That increased focus, along with several successive 10 minute playing time games, and......

Not a chance he averages 10 and 10.

One example of just how his play effected things was on Hassan's spinning put back. Watch the replay, while the shot is in the air he sprints in front of his man to get into offensive rebounding position instead of waiting for the ball, this pulls his man out of the position he was in opening up the middle. This then allows Hassan a free look at the board and path to the basket.

It's just small subtle things like that. They won't show up in box scores but they are important plays made within a game.

Plays really hard, is aware and puts emphasis on boxing out. There are times he’s even directing guys out there. Feel great for the kid to see him contributing because you can see how meaningful it is to him to get his shot.

If he can get to 8-10 mpg thst will be huge for helping keep Johnson and Reed out of foul trouble.
Two stints of two minutes each in first half and second half boxed around TV timeouts would be great.

Definitely pleasantly surprised by his minutes tonight. Did well on Ike other than that first foul which I’m sure we all saw coming a mile a way when he first checked in

Singare was huge just night. He has really improved, and he deserves to play more. With Reed and Samson both foul prone, we will need him much more than people think this season. I hope he gets more minutes soon since he will be huge for us next season if not this one.

Only issue is positioning on defense and fouls. He reacts way too fast to fakes. But similar to Samson, he also seems pretty thin.

I still remember the early/mid 90's post game fan phone calls to Arnold Dean on WTIC - fans venting about how we are a "donut team" with a hole in the middle.... Knight, Willingham, Hayward. Many decided "at least we have 15 fouls to give". LOL That was until Knight solidified his spot at the five his JR year.

What's encouraging about Singare is that when he's been in games for short spurts- It's not making a negative impact on our team's efficiency. I am not comparing him to Reed or Johnson. Simply saying it helps when your third Big isn't causing issues in maintaining or extending leads. BTW-His coaches are beginning to trust him more as well.

I think what we see with his him looking better out there, more solid, doing his job, being in the right spots, is his rising confidence that comes with playing some meaningful minutes. There are others too, getting better by the game. Diarra for one, his PG skills growing these past few games, McNeeley too, starting to take over in spots, showing a real toughness and versatility.

I think only Okafor and Thabeet.

I agree, people get carried away on here. I remember before last season some people thought Clingan would average 20 and 10. No way anyone was averaging 20/game on last season's team. Way too balanced for that.
