Gerry McNamara is putting together a great class at Siena. Ryan Moesch and Parrish Edmond are not at all your typical MAAC level freshmen recruits. I expect both of them to show out there and get a serious bag at a high major in the future. I expect more kids to do this now with the way things are currently set up.

The way things are set up it hurts mid-majors in retaining players but they're also getting kids they never would've gotten with the way things used to be.

Gerry Mac has to prove he can develop these guys and get them portal and NIL offers. It's a good strategy for him, and for the players, if he can.
He's already starting to prove that. Overall, the team last year had just 6.2% roster continuity. Siena had four 10+ ppg scorers last season which included one freshman, two non-D1 transfers and a guy who jumped from 3 ppg the previous year to 13 ppg his first year w/ Gerry Mac.

This is the true farm system.

It doesn't make sense for high major D1 teams to pay money for 3 or 4 star recruits to sit on the bench for two years.

Spend money on proven commodities (transfers) and high demand instant impact recruits.

Mid-majors and low majors (Like Siena or Suracuse) are a perfect landing spot to develop college freshmen and showcase them before they move on to a higher caliber ball.

This is the recruiting strategy more or less that Jim Mora is doing for UConn Football.

They’re already getting NIL from GMac. Rumor mill says Moesch is getting $200k/annually and a car from Siena. Not bad for a MAAC school.

The Sea Grape needs to pony up some NIL $ for Fairfield!

It seems Moesch is an undersized PG that needs to physically develop. He'll get to play immediately at Siena. Providence was his only P5 offer and Providence has a 4 star (top 10 PG) transfer from Florida St. coming in this year.

That fire went out??
Yeah, I don't really care about them anymore. Like BC and Pitt, they're just names from our past, not actual competition. They can't compete with us for recruits, they can't beat us on the court, they're irrelevant in their own conference, and their fans (the few that are left) know it.

They might as well have folded their programs.

The last Syracuse-Georgetown game -- you know, the rivalry they dedicated an entire ESPN 30 for 30 to recapping -- aired on like ACC-Plus or something in front of a completely dead crowd. No one cared

A good mid-major should be able to feast on low 4-star guys who will be passed over now instead of portal guys. Figure you'll get 1-2 years before they bounce. Pure farm system. It's gotta be miserable, though, to try to break into coaching now at the lower D1 levels. You can't really ever build anything. Your players will almost always bounce on you to the higher bidder (I don't blame them, but still...)
