I'm not surprised. Stanford has been in the fore-front in terms of recruiting for years. They somehow find these "unknowns", and make their pitch first. It's not hard to sell Stanford to a prospect. A top five university (academically) in the country. A basketball program consistently in the top 25. A two time national champion (1990 & 1992).

A head coach (Tara Van Derveer) who has been at the helm since 1985 (31 years), who is also a 2011 inductee into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. Located in a near well to do Northern California city (Palo Alto) that has good weather year round, that's in very close proximity to San Francisco, Silicon Valley, the Wine Country, and the pacific ocean. Again, not a hard sell at all.
